COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women's indoor track and field teams completed competition here Saturday on the second day of the Colorado Running Company Pre-Holiday Invitational and Multi held at the Mountain Lion Field House on the campus of UCCS.
Overall, for the two day event, the ThunderWolves competed in a total of 22 events (10 for the men, 12 for the women). Along the competing in a total of 22 events, the Pack also recorded a total of seven NCAA provisional indoor marks.
In addition, the Pack also claimed six individual events on the weekend.
On Friday, the Pack women claimed a win by sophomore
Jadyn Herron-Jonap (Queen Creek, Ariz./Casteel) in the 800-meter run with an NCAA provisional time of 2:15.37 that was altitude adjusted to 2:12.61 and set an NCAA provisional time in the 3,000-meter run by senior
Margot Thomas-Gatel (Chapet, Ile-de-France, France/Notre Dame Oiseaux) as she finished second with a time of 10:16.60 which was altitude adjusted to 9:49.31.
The other five individual event wins came on Saturday.
On the women's side, the Pack took home three wins on Saturday as senior took home a win in the mile run with a time of 5:05.18. In addition to Thomas-Gatel, Herron-Jonap was second with a time of 5:16.05, while sophomore
Elodie Hebert (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Cegep de Sherbrooke) was fourth with a time of 5:20.58 and sophomore
Delaney Gilfillan (Denver, Colo./George Washington) was eighth with a time of 5:44.10.
In the high jump, junior
Mikayla Jones (Aurora, Colo./Vista Peak Prep) was first in the event with an NCAA provisional mark of 1.71 meters (5-7.25").
The other event win on Saturday for the Pack came in the shot put as junior All-American
Katherine Higgins (Mead, Colo./Ponderosa) finished first with a mark of 15.22 meters (49-11.25"), while sophomore
Febe Wessels (Pretoria, South Africa) was second with a mark of 14.94 meters (49-0.25") and junior
Olivia Mikaelian (Albuquerque, N.M./El Dorado) was seventh with a mark of 11.78 meters (38-7.75").
In addition to the three event wins on Saturday, the Pack also finished second in two events on Saturday as freshman
Danaya Kinnard (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) finished second in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.68. In addition to Kinnard, freshman
Janise Everett (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) was seventh in the event finals with a time of 7.96 and sophomore
Gabrielle Dunich (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central) was eighth with a time of 8.00.
The other second place finish came in the 5,000-meters as sophomore
Sarah Renberg (Fresno, Calif./Edison) was second with a time of 18:24.66, while sophomore
Crystal Armijo (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) was third with a time of 19:01.13 and freshman
Sophie Kretschmer (Aschersleban, Germany) was fourth with a time of 19:23.53.
The Pack also competed in the 4-x-400 relay on Saturday as the 'A' relay team was third with a time of 4:03.20 and the 'B' relay team was fourth with a time of 4:14.17. The members of the 'A' relay team were Kinnard, Herron-Jonap, sophomore
Mary Scoggins (Rangely, Colo./Rangley) and Dunich, while the 'B' relay team members were Everett, Jones, Thomas-Gatel and Hebert.
Kinnard also finished fifth in the 200 meter run with a time of 26.09 and Jones was eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.17 meters (36-7.75").
Meanwhile, on the men's side, the Pack won two events on Saturday as graduate student
Matisse Virey (Lyon, France/Lycee Charlie Chaplin) won the mile run with an NCAA provisional mark of 4:16.93 that was altitude adjusted to 4:05.70. In addition to Virey, freshman
Jon Sweepe (Peoria, Ariz./Liberty) was second in the event with an NCAA provisional time of 4:17.06 that was altitude adjusted to 4:05.82.
The other event the Pack won came in the shot put as graduate student
Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont./Helena Capital) recorded a first place NCAA provisional mark of 18.34 meters (60-2"). In addition to Jenks, sophomore
Xavier Freeman (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) was second in the shot put with a mark of 15.61 meters (51-2.75"), while junior
Lukas Moran (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo West) was third with a mark of 15.13 meters (49-7.75") and sophomore
Felipe Castro Engel (Santiago, Chile/Mount Mercy) was fourth with a mark of 14.28 meters (46-10.25").
Virey also recorded an NCAA provisional time on Friday in the 3,000-meter run as he was second in the event with a time of 8:36.07 that was altitude adjusted to 8:11.73.
In the high jump, sophomore
Keith McInnis (Denver, Colo./Denver North) was eighth in the event with a mark of 6.83 meters (22-5").
The Pack also competed in the 4-x-400 relay as the Pack's 'A' and 'B' relay teams finished third and fourth overall with times of 3:32.18 and 3:36.68 respectively. The members of the 'A' relay team were freshman
Grant Young (Dallas, Texas/Shelton), freshman
Nathan Swalley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain-Fort Carson), McInnis and sophomore
Joseph Kirwan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain), while the 'B' relay team members were sophomore
Cesar Sanchez Acosta (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East), Sweepe, sophomore
Evan Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) and freshman
Mekhi Hubbard (Fountain, Colo./Mesa Ridge).
CSU Pueblo's indoor track and field teams will now take time off for finals, the holidays and the New Year and will return to action on Jan. 26-27 as they compete at the UNM Team Open in Albuquerque, N.M.
