Paris, FRANCE - The Colorado State University Pueblo Track and Field squad gave the Great Britain and French Championships their best effort in an attempt to qualify three athletes for the 2024 Olympic Games which will be held in late July into August in Paris.
Reece Sharman-Newell and
Helen Braybrook competed in the 800 meters in Manchester, England, attempting to qualify for Team Great Britain at the 2024 games.
Margot Thomas-Gatel was competiting at the French Championships in Angers, France in the 3000m Steeplechase in an attempt to qualify for Team France in the Olympics.
Sharman-Newell and Braybrook respectively redshirted this season for the ThunderWolves to focus on their Olympic dreams, while Thomas-Gatel had an incredible season for the ThunderWovles, as the long-distance runner broke numerous records and was named an All-American in the 3000m Steeplechase.
Braybrook competed in the second heat in the 800m in Manchester, as the Mid-Distance runner finished fifth with a time of 2:06.13. Braybrook ran in the same event as the young 17-year old phenom Phoebe Gill, who took the UK Media by surprise this past week.
Thomas-Gatel competed in the finals of the French 3000m Steeplechase at Stade Josette et Roger Mikulak in Angers, as the long-distance runner finished 14th with a time of 10:38.88 to cap off an incredible season in long-distance running.
Sharman-Newell was the closest member of the Pack Track squad to qualifying, as the mid-distance runner finished second in the first heat of the 800m with time of 1:47.61 to advance to the finals. Sharman-Newell just missed out on a spot with Team GB, finishing fifth with a time of 1:46.89 in the finals. Three athletes qualify for the Olympic team.
CSU Pueblo Track and Field is in good hands with
Matt Morris at the helm, along with these three athletes leading the way for the ThunderWolves.
