COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed here Friday on the first day of the Colorado Running Company Pre-Holiday Invitational and Multi by competing in numerous events at the Mountain Lion Field House on the campus of UCCS.
In Friday's meet, freshman
Danaya Kinnard (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) posted the second fastest qualifying time in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.73 to advance to Saturday's final of the event. In addition to Kinnard, freshman
Janise Everett (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) and sophomore
Gabrielle Dunich (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central) also qualified for Saturday's finals with times of 7.80 and 7.87 to finish seventh and eighth in qualifying.
The Pack women turned in a first place finish in the 800-meter run as sophomore
Jadyn Herron-Jonap (Queen Creek, Ariz./Casteel) posted a time of 2:15.37 to finish in first place. Sophomore
Elodie Hebert (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Cegep de Sherbrooke) was fourth in the event with a time of 2:21.95.
Senior
Margot Thomas-Gatel (Chapet, Ile-de-France, France/Notre Dame Les Oiseaux), who was this week's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, posted a second place finish in the 3,000-meters with a time of 10:16.60, while sophomore
Delaney Gilfillan (Denver, Colo./George Washington) was ninth with a time of 12:01.31.
Sophomore
Mary Scoggins (Rangely, Colo./Rangely) was 12th in the pentathlon with 3,071 points.
The final event for the Pack women on Friday was the weight throw as the Pack was led by a second-place finish by junior
Olivia Mikaelian (Albuquerque, N.M./El Dorado) as she recorded a mark of 16.31 meters (53-6). In addition to Mikaelian, junior
Katherine Higgins (Mead, Colo./Ponderosa) was fifth with a mark of 14.94 meters (49-0) and sophomore
Febe Wessels (Pretoria, South Africa) was ninth with a mark of 13.73 meters (45-0.50").
Meanwhile, on the men's side, the Pack finished second in the three of the events they competed in on Friday.
In the 800-meter run, freshman
Jon Sweepe (Peoria, Ariz./Liberty) was second with a time of 1:58.05, while freshman
Nathan Swalley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain-Fort Carson) was fifth with a time of 2:02.63 and freshman
Grant Young (Dallas, Texas/Shelton) was 10th in the event with a time of 2:08.31.
The Pack finished second, fourth and fifth in the 3,000-meters as graduate student
Matisse Virey (Lyon, France/Lycee Charlie Chaplin) was second with a time of 8:36.07, while junior
Kaleb Beloy (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage) was fourth with a time of 8:48.32 and sophomore
Joseph Harker (Rehoboth, N.M./Bryant & Stratton) was fifth with a time of 8:52.50.
In the 60-meter dash, sophomore
Evan Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) was 15th in the preliminaries with a time of 7.17.
Graduate student
Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont./Helena Captial) was second in the weight throw with a mark of 17.84 meters (58-6.25"), while
Xavier Freeman (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) was fourth in the event with a mark of 15.05 meters (49-4.50") and sophomore
Felipe Castro Engel (Santiago, Chile/Mount Mercy) was fifth with a mark of 15.01 meters (49-2.75"). Two other Pack competitors – junior
Lukas Moran (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo West) and sophomore
Maverik Mertens (New Raymer, Colo./Prairie Junior-Senior) were seventh and ninth respectively with marks of 14.92 meters (48-11) and 11.42 meters (37-5.50").
Sophomore
Keith McInnis (Denver, Colo./Denver North) was ninth in the long jump with a mark of 6.83 meters (22-4.75"), while sophomore
Ryan King (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo West) and sophomore
Joseph Kirwan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) were sixth and ninth in the 400-meter run with times of 51.51 and 53.12 respectively.
The Pack men's and women's teams will conclude action in the meet at UCCS on Saturday morning.
