Curtis Named RMAC Pitcher of the Year, Five Players Earn All-RMAC Honors

Borjas Named Repeat Gold Glove Team Selection

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo senior Tyler Curtis (Las Vegas, Nev./Southern Idaho) was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and highlights a group of five All-RMAC selection from the ThunderWolves baseball team.

Curtis, who was the lone Pack player to earn First-Team All-RMAC honors, is joined on one of the three All-RMAC Teams by junior outfielder Elijah Borjas (Denver, Colo./Lakewood), who was named a Second-Team All-RMAC selection, while senior outfielder Christian Castaneda (El Paso, Texas/Otero JC), redshirt senior pitcher Edwing Corrales (Delicias, Mexico/Otero JC) and junior catcher Brady Ingalls (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa) were named Honorable Mention All-RMAC honorees. In addition, Borjas was named a repeat selection to the RMAC Gold Glove Team as an outfielder.

With his Pitcher of the Year, Curtis becomes the sixth Pack player to earn RMAC Pitcher of the Year accolades and the first since Mike Fabrizio was honored in 2014. In addition to Fabrizio, Shawn Martinez was honored in 2004, while Don Clement earned the honor in 2003 and Judd Songster was honored in 2001. Darrell O'Brien was recognized in 1996 and current Pack head coach Bobby Applegate was honored in1994.

Curtis earns his RMAC Pitcher of the Year honor after finishing the regular season leading the league in both innings pitched (75) and ERA (5.28), while being tied for first in the league in wins (9), complete games (43) and was tied for second in starts (12) and was second in both walks (14) and strikeouts (65). He was also second in the league in both strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.64) and walks to innings pitched (1.68).

Entering the Pack's RMAC Tournament opener on Wednesday against top-seeded Colorado Mesa, Curtis is 9-2 on the season with a 5.28 ERA and in 75 innings of work, he tossed three complete games, allowed 90 hits, 46 runs, 44 earned runs, while striking out 65 and walking 14 in 12 appearances. He pitched at least six innings in eight of his 12 starts and recorded six or more strikeouts in six of his 12 starts and had at least three strikeouts in each of his 12 starts. In RMAC play, Curtis was 5-2 with a 6.66 ERA. In 50 innings of work, he struck out 43 and walked 11.

Curtis is joined on the All-RMAC First Team by Colorado Mesa junior starting pitcher Cole Seward, Mines senior starting pitcher/infielder Luke Folsom, Colorado Mesa junior starting pitcher Caleb Rutter, Regis senior relief pitcher Ethan Sloan, Regis junior catcher Adam Paniagua, Adams State senior first baseman Matt Bathauer, Colorado Mesa senior second baseman Jonathon Gonzalez, UCCS junior third baseman Alec Gomez, Adams State senior shortstop Mike Bathauer, Colorado Mesa senior outfielder Rob Sharrar, MSU Denver junior outfielder Jesse Velders, redshirt junior outfielder Mason Andrews, Regis junior outfielder Maxim Fullerton and MSU Denver senior designated hitter Zach Schuler.

Borjas earns his spot on the All-RMAC Second Team after hitting .360 and recording a .600 slugging percentage, a .409 on-base percentage and a 1.009 OPS. On the season, he recorded 63 hits, scored 35 runs, hit eight doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and had 52 RBI. In addition, he drew 15 walks and was 9-for-11 on stolen bases in 47 games and 45 starts. Borjas led the team in multi-hit games with 20 and was tied for the team lead in multiple RBI games with 15 and had six games with three or more hits, including two four-hit games. In RMAC play, Borjas hit .350 with a .521 slugging percentage and a .396 on-base percentage and tallied a .917 OPS. He finished league play with 41 hits, scored 21 runs, hit three doubles, one triple, five home runs and 30 RBI and was 6-for-8 on stolen bases. He also had 13 multi-hit games and nine multiple RBI games in 32 league games and 117 at-bats.

Borjas also repeats as a Gold Glove Team honoree after recording no errors in 81 fielding chances and tallied 79 put-outs and two assists for a 1.000 fielding percentage. Over the past two seasons, Borjas has not committed an error in right field.

He is joined on the All-RMAC Second Team by Adams State graduate student starting pitcher Cesar Loma, MSU Denver senior starting pitcher Jack Slominski, Mines sophomore starting pitcher Alex Honeyman, MSU Denver junior starting pitcher Dylan Webber, Colorado Mesa junior relief pitcher Ethan Voss, Mines sophomore catcher Tyler Pina, Colorado Mesa first baseman Braden Winget, Adams State redshirt junior second baseman Joseph Raker, MSU Denver second baseman Tyler Tobey, Adams State freshman third baseman Seth Reker, Regis redshirt junior shortstop Clayton Conn, MSU Denver senior infielder Jake Williams, Regis senior outfielder Levi Padilla and Colorado Mesa sophomore outfielder Kolby Felix, Regis junior outfielder Garrett Rede, MSU Denver junior outfielder Cam Yuran and Colorado Mesa junior designated hitter Christos Stefanos.

The RMAC Gold Glove Team consisted of Mines redshirt senior catcher Keene Tanaka, Slominski, Winget, Raker, Colorado Christian senior third baseman Kade Carney, UCCS redshirt junior shortstop Vander Hodges, Adams State sophomore outfielder Ayden Tauscher and Colorado Christian sophomore outfielder Jonny Tewinkle.

Castaneda, who was named a Second-Team All-RMAC selection last season, earns his Honorable Mention All-RMAC selection after hitting a team-leading .366 with 63 hits, 49 runs scored, 18 doubles, 17 home runs and 63 RBI. In addition, he recorded a .733 slugging percentage, a .477 on-base percentage and a 1.210 OPS. He also drew 30 walks, was hit by 10 pitches and was 9-for-10 on stolen bases. In RMAC play, he hit .330 with 36 hits, 22 runs scored, nine doubles, seven home runs and 32 RBI.

Corrales earns his Honorable Mention All-RMAC accolade after going 4-2 with a 7.68 ERA during the regular season. On the season, he made nine appearances and nine starts and tossed one complete game. In 41 innings of work, Corrales allowed 50 hits, 39 runs, 35 earned runs, while walking 16 and striking out 35. In RMAC play, Corrales was 2-1 with a 4.76 ERA as he made five starts and tossed 22.1 innings. In those 22.1 innings, he allowed 21 hits, 16 runs, 12 earned runs, while walking 10 and striking out 17. Opposing hitters hit .239 against Corrales in RMAC play.

Ingalls earns his Honorable Mention All-RMAC honor after hitting .275 with 25 hits, 19 runs scored, eight doubles, one triple and 11 RBI, while recording a .385 on-base percentage. He helped a Pack pitching staff finish the regular season with a season-best team ERA (6.99) in the RMAC. In RMAC play, he hit .288 with 15 hits and 12 runs scored and had four doubles and 6 RBI, while helping the Pack pitchers record a 6.82 ERA in league games.

The Pack trio is joined on the Honorable Mention All-RMAC Team by Adams State's Christian Altamirano, Adams State's Ty Addington, Adams State's Jack Dere, Adams State's Ayden Tauscher, CCU's Kade Carney, Colorado Mesa's Evan Bunevich, Colorado Mesa's Ethan Nunez, Mines' Evan Bilter, Mines' I-Ly Hsue, Mines' Keena Tanaka, Mines' Jackson Woolwine, MSU Denver's Reichle Arcilise, MSU Denver's Cal Walsh, New Mexico Highlands' Jadrian Martinez and UCCS's Hayden Iverson.  

CSU Pueblo, who is seeded sixth in the RMAC Tournament, will open tournament play on Wednesday, May 8 with a 3:30 p.m. game at The Diamond in Grand Junction, Colo., against top-seeded and RMAC regular season champion Colorado Mesa. The double-elimination tournament runs through Saturday, May 10 and the winner of the tournament receives the league's automatic bid  to the NCAA Division II Baseball South Central Regional Tournament.
