OAKLAND, Calif. – Former Colorado State University Pueblo right-handed pitcher Jacob Petersheim has signed a professional baseball contract with the Oakland Ballers of the Pioneer League, continuing his baseball career at the professional level.
The Oakland Ballers, based in the Bay Area, compete in the Pioneer League, an independent professional baseball league featuring clubs throughout the western United States, including teams located throughout the Rocky Mountain region and California.
A native of Broadway, Virginia, Petersheim recently completed his collegiate career with the ThunderWolves after spending five seasons in Pueblo, including a redshirt campaign. During his time at CSU Pueblo, Petersheim established himself as one of the program's most versatile and dependable arms, contributing both as a reliever and later as a starter.
One of the most unique pitchers in recent ThunderWolves history, Petersheim reinvented himself midway through his collegiate career by transitioning to a submarine-style delivery. The change proved to be a turning point as the hard-throwing right-hander developed into one of CSU Pueblo's most effective pitchers and became a key piece of the ThunderWolves' pitching staff.
Over his five seasons in Pueblo, Petersheim appeared in 67 career games, making 20 starts while posting a 10-10 career record. He logged 166.1 innings pitched and finished his career with a 6.82 earned run average while competing in the hitter-friendly Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
As his career progressed, Petersheim transitioned into a larger starting role and became a reliable option for head coach Bobby Applegate and pitching coach Jared Morton. He played a significant role on the ThunderWolves' 2025 squad that eclipsed the 30-win mark and remained one of the club's most consistent pitchers throughout his career.
Petersheim's toughness, adaptability, and willingness to embrace change helped define his time in a ThunderWolf uniform. His development from a traditional right-handed pitcher into a submarine specialist showcased both his work ethic and commitment to finding success at the collegiate level.
The 22-year-old now takes the next step in his baseball journey as he heads to California to join the Oakland Ballers. Petersheim will join the Ballers midway through the 2026 season as Oakland currently sits at 11-17 in Pioneer League play.
With the signing, Petersheim becomes the latest ThunderWolf baseball student-athlete to continue his playing career professionally and further adds to CSU Pueblo's growing list of alumni competing at the next level.
