PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women's indoor track teams wrapped up action here Saturday in the Ninth Annual Gorilla Indoor Classic held at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State University.
On the second day of the two-day event, the ThunderWolves recorded a total of seven NCAA provisional qualifying marks in five different events with the Pack women recording four NCAA provisional marks and the Pack men tallying three NCAA provisional marks.
Four of the Pack's seven NCAA provisional marks came in the shot put as junior All-American
Katherine Higgins (Mead, Colo./Ponderosa) won the women's shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 15.09 meters (49-6.25"). In addition to Higgins, sophomore
Febe Wessels (Pretoria, South Africa) was second with an NCAA provisional mark of 14.44 meters (47-4.50"). Junior
Olivia Mikaelian (Albuquerque, N.M./El Dorado) was 29th in the event with a mark of 11.06 meters (36-3.50").
In the men's shot put, graduate student
Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont./Helena Capital) was second with an NCAA provisional mark of 17.80 meters (58-4.75"), while sophomore
Leonardo Ramos (Denver, Colo./Far Northeast) was sixth with an NCAA provisional mark of 17.18 meters (56-4.50"). Along with Jenks and Ramos, sophomore
Xavier Freeman (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) was 15th with a mark of 15.38 meters (50-5.50"), while sophomore
Felipe Castro Engel (Santiago, Chile/Mount Mercy) was 26th with a mark of 14.53 meters (47-8") and junior
Lukas Moran (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo West) was 29th with a mark of 14.13 meters (46-4.25").
The other two events the Pack recorded NCAA provisional marks in came in the 800-meter run and the 3,000-meter run. In the 800-meter run, sophomore
Jadyn Herron-Jonap (Queen Creek, Ariz./Casteel) was first in the event with an NCAA provisional time of 2:11.85, while senior
Margot Thomas-Gatel (Chapet, Ile-de-France, France/Notre Dame Les Oiseaux) was first in the 3,000-meters with an NCAA provisional time of 9:50.50.
Freshman
Camille Renou (Chalonnes, France/AS Saint-Barthlelemy) was sixth in the mile run with a time of 4:58.03.
Junior
Mikayla Jones (Aurora, Colo./Vista Peak Prep) was 12th in the high jump invitational with a mark of 1.61 meters (5-3.25") and was 21st in the triple jump with a leap of 10.93 meters (35-10.50").
The final competitor for the Pack women was freshman
Danaya Kinnard (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) was 21st in the 60-meter dash preliminaries.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, freshman
Jon Sweepe (Peoria, Ariz./Liberty) was fourth in the mile run with an NCAA provisional time of 4:08.18.
The Pack men had four competitors in the 3,000-meter run as junior
Kaleb Beloy (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage) was the top finisher as he finished eighth with a time of 8:20.39. Senior
Daniel Beam (Rio Rancho, N.M./Western New Mexico) was 14th with a time of 8:34.58, while graduate student
Matisse Virey (Lyon, France/Lycee Charle Chaplin) was 22nd with a time of 8:39.73 and sophomore
Joseph Harker (Rehoboth, N.M./Bryant & Stratton College) was 29th with a time 8:46.34.
Freshman
Nathan Swalley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain-Fort Carson) was 43rd in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.95.
The Pack will close out its indoor regular season meet schedule next weekend (Feb. 16-17) as they compete at the Mines Pre-Conference Meet in Golden, Colo.
