ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women indoor track and field teams concluded action here Saturday on the second day of the UNM Team hosted by the University of New Mexico and held at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
On Saturday's second day of the meet, the ThunderWolves competed in a total of eight events as the Pack women competed in six events and the Pack men competed in two events.
Along with competing in eight events, the Pack also recorded three NCAA provisional qualifying marks in both the men's and women's shot put.
In the women's shot put, junior All-American
Katherine Higgins (Mead, Colo./Ponderosa) and sophomore
Febe Wessels (Pretoria, South Africa) each had NCAA provisional qualifying marks as Higgins finished third in the event with a provisional mark of 15.08 meters (49-5.75") and Wessels was 10th with a mark of 13.78 meters (45-2.50"). A third Pack competitor in the event was junior
Olivia Mikaelian (Albuquerque, N.M./El Dorado) as she finished 27th with a mark of 10.85 meters (35-7.25").
Meanwhile, in the men's shot put, graduate student
Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont./Helena Capital) was seventh in the event with a provisional mark of 17.33 meters (56-10.25"). Along with Jenks, sophomore
Xavier Freeman (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) was 18th with a mark of 15.00 meters (49-2.50"), while sophomore
Leonardo Ramos (Denver, Colo./Far Northeast) was 22nd with a mark of 14.60 meters (47-11") and sophomore
Felipe Castro Engel (Santiago, Chile/Mount Mercy) was 23rd with a mark of 13.96 meters (45-9.75").
The other event the Pack men competed in on Saturday was in the 800-meter run as freshman
Jon Sweepe (Peoria, Ariz./Liberty) was 15th with a time of 1:54.18, while freshman
Nathan Swalley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain-Fort Carson) was 35th with a time of 2:00.69 and freshman
Grant Young (Dallas, Texas/Shelton) was 38th with a time of 2:01.46.
On the women's side, the Pack also competed in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter run, 800-meter run, 1-mile run and the 4-x-400 meter relay.
The top finish for the Pack women was a ninth place finish in both the 800-meter run by sophomore
Elodie Hebert (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Cegep de Sherbrooke) and the 1-mile run by sophomore
Jadyn Herron-Jonap (Queen Creek, Ariz./Casteel). Hebert posted a time of 2:19.18 in the 800-meter run, while Herron-Jonap had a time of 5:04.53 in the mile run.
Along with Herron-Jonap, freshman freshman
Camille Renou (Chalonnes, France/AS Saint-Barthelemy) was 11th in the mile-run with a time of 5:07.57.
The Pack recorded an 18th place finish in the 4-x-400 meter relay with a time of 4:02.05. The members of the relay team were sophomore Mary Scroggins (Rangely, Colo./Rangely), sophomore
Gabrielle Dunich (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central), Herron-Jonap and freshman
Danaya Kinnard (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge).
In the unseeded 60-meter run the top time was turned by Kennard as she ran a time of 7.89 to finish in 30th place. Freshman
Janise Everett (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) was 47th with a time of 8.08 and Dunich was 52nd with a time of 8.26.
The other event the Pack women competed in was the 200-meter run as Kennard was 47th with a time of 25.69, while Everett was 64th with a time of 26.39 and Dunich was 72nd with a time of 26.78.
CSU Pueblo will continue its men's and women's indoor track season on Feb. 9-10 as they travel to Pittsburg, Kan., to compete at the Gorilla Classic hosted by Pittsburg State University.
