GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in a total of seven events here Saturday at the Mines Winter Classic & Multi held at Steinhauer Field House.
At the meet, which was hosted by Colorado School of Mines, the ThunderWolves won three of their seven events they competed in and recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the men's high jump.
Perhaps the highlight of the day for the Pack was sophomore
Keith McInnis (Denver, Colo./Denver North) recording an NCAA provisional mark in the men's high jump as he finished third overall in the event with a leap of 2.07 meters (6-9.25")
In addition to McInnis' NCAA provisional mark in the high jump, the Pack men finished first and second in two events, while Pack women had a first place finish in the 5,000 meter run and third place finish in the high jump.
On the men's side, junior
Mario Franco (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) and freshman
Mekhi Hubbard (Fountain, Colo./Mesa Ridge) went first and second in the 400-meter run as Franco won the race with a time of 54.88, while Hubbard was second with a time of 55.09.
The Pack also got first and second place finishes in the men's 5,000-meter run as senior
Daniel Beam (Rio Rancho, N.M./Western New Mexico) took home first place with a winning time of 15:30.45, while sophomore
Joseph Harker (Rehoboth, N.M./Bryant & Stratton College) was second with a time of 15:34.32.
Hubbard also competed in the men's 60-meter run dash as he was 16th in the preliminaries with a time of 7.25.
Meanwhile, on the women's side, sophomore
Crystal Armijo (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) took home first place in the 5,000-meter run with a winning time of 19:37.13.
The Pack's other competitor on the women's side on Saturday was junior
Mikayla Jones (Aurora, Colo./Vista Peak Prep) as she was third in the high jump with a mark of 1.66 meters (5-5.25") and was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.66 meters (34-11.75").
CSU Pueblo will continue its men's and women's indoor track season on Feb. 9-10 as they travel to Pittsburg, Kan., to compete at the Gorilla Classic hosted by Pittsburg State University.
