ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women indoor track and field teams opened action here Friday in the UNM Team Open by competing in three events at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
The ThunderWolves men and women competed in the weight throw, 3,000 run and the 600 run.
On the women's side, the top performance came from junior
Olivia Mikaelian (Albuquerque, N.M./El Dorado) in the weight throw as she recorded a toss of 16.59 meters (54-5) to finish in 10th place. Her mark was a Pack season best in the weight throw. In addition to Mikaelian, junior All-American
Katherine Higgins (Mead, Colo./Ponderosa) was 16th with a toss of 15.62 meters (51-3).
In the 3,000-meter run, the Pack had four competitors run with senior
Margot Thomas-Gatel (Chapet, Ile-de-France, France/Notre Dame Les Oiseaux) was the top finisher as she placed 16th with a time of 10:21.06. In addition to Thomas-Gatel, freshman
Camille Renou (Chalonnes, France/AS Saint-Barthelemy) was 21st with a time of 10:25.88, while sophomore
Jadyn Herron-Jonap (Queen Creek, Ariz./Casteel) was 24th with a time of 10:30.06 and sophomore
Sarah Renberg (Fresno, Calif./Edison) was 30th with a time of 10:45.67.
The final event for the Pack women on Friday was the 600-meter run as sophomore
Elodie Hebert (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Cegep de Sherbrooke) was 16th with a time of 1:40.27 and sophomore
Mary Scoggins (Rangely, Colo./Rangely) was 23rd with a time of 1:43.23.
Meanwhile, on the men's side of action on Friday evening, the top performance came in the weight throw as graduate student
Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont./Helena Capital) was seventh in the event with a toss of 17.84 meters (58-6). In addition to Jenks, sophomore
Leonardo Ramos (Denver, Colo./Far Northeast) was 15th with a time of 15.39 meters (50-6), while junior
Lukas Moran (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo West) was 17th with a mark of 15.02 meters (49-3). The final two competitors were sophomore
Xavier Freeman (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) and sophomore
Felipe Castro Engel (Santiago, Chile/Mount Mercy) were 21st and 23rd overall with marks of 14.06 meters (46-1) and 13.71 meters (44-11) respectively.
In the 3,000-meter run, freshman
Jon Sweepe (Peoria, Ariz./Liberty) was 20th with a time of 8:52.65.
The final event for the Pack men was the 600-meter run was freshmen
Grant Young (Dallas, Texas/Shelton) and Grant Swalley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain-Fort Carson) were 11th and 13th respectively with times of 1:23.92 and 1:25.73.
The UNM Team Meet resumes for Day Two on Saturday, Jan. 27 with field events set to begin at 9:30 a.m. MT and track events beginning at 10:30 a.m. MT.
