GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women's track and field teams concluded action here Saturday on the second day of the Mines Alumni Classic as the ThunderWolves won three events and recorded five NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the meet held at Steinhauer Fieldhouse on the Colorado School of Mines campus.
The Pack opened the meet on Friday by recording three provisional qualifying marks in the shot put as graduate student
Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont./Helena Capital) finished third overall in the men's shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 18.04 meters (59-2.25"), while on the women's side, junior All-American
Katherine Higgins (Mead, Colo./Ponderosa) and sophomore
Febe Wessels (Pretoria, South Africa) each recorded NCAA provisional marks of 15.41 meters (50-6.75") and 15.17 meters (49-9.25") respectively.
Meanwhile, in the Saturday's second day of the meet, one of the Pack's two NCAA provisional mark came in the women's mile run as senior
Margot Thomas-Gatel (Chapet, Ile-de-France, France/Notre Dame Les Oiseaux) took home first place in the event with a provisional time of 5:03.52, while the other NCAA provisional mark came from Jenks in the weight throw with a mark of 18.25 meters (59-10.5").
In addition to Thomas-Gatel, the Pack also finished second, fourth, fifth, seventh and 11th in the mile run as sophomore Jadyn Herron (Queen Creek, Ariz./Casteel) was second with a time of 5:14.70, while sophomore
Elodie Hebert (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Cegep de Sherbrooke) was fourth with a time of 5:25.44 and sophomore
Sarah Renberg (Fresno, Calif./Edison) was fifth with a time of 5:27.61. Sophomore
Crystal Armijo (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) was seventh with a time of 5:40.17 and sophomore Destiny Gilfillan (Denver, Colo./George Washington).
The other event winner on the women's side came in the high jump as junior
Mikayla Jones (Aurora, Colo./Vista Peak Prep) took home first place with a mark of 1.64 meters (5'4.50").
The lone event win on the men's side on Saturday came in the mile run as junior
Kaleb Beloy (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage) took home first place with a time of 4:30.81. In addition to Beloy, freshman
Jon Sweepe (Peoria, Ariz./Liberty) was second with a time of 4:30.86 and sophomore
Joseph Harker (Rehoboth, N.M./Bryant & Stratton) was third with a time of 4:35.05.
Other strong performances on the women's side came from freshman
Danaya Kinnard (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) was seventh in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.86. In the preliminaries, Kinnard was eighth with a time of 7.80.
The Pack went fourth, fifth and sixth in the 400-meter run as sophomore
Gabrielle Dunich (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central) was fourth with a time of 1:02.14, while Kinnard was fifth with a time of 1:02.51 and sophomore
Mary Scoggins (Rangely, Colo./Rangely) was sixth with a time of 1:02.70.
On the men's side, other strong efforts were turned by sophomore
Ryan King (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo West) as he was third in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.08, while freshman
Grant Young (Dallas, Texas/Shelton) was fifth with a time of 53.57, freshman
Mekhi Hubbard (Fountain, Colo./Mesa Ridge) was sixth with a time of 56.37 and junior
Mario Franco (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) was seventh with a time of 56.44.
In the 800-meter run, the Pack went second and fourth as freshman
Nathan Swalley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain-Fort Carson) was second with a time of 2:00.96 and sophomore
Joseph Kirwan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) was fourth with a time of 2:06.16.
Sophomore
Keith McInnis (Denver, Colo./Denver North) turned in a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.98 meters (6-6).
The Pack will continue its indoor track and field season next weekend (Dec. 8-9) as the Pack will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., to compete in the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invitational.
