GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's swimming team competed in four events on the second day of the action at the TYR/CMU Invitational held in the El Pomar Natatorium on the campus of Colorado Mesa University.
In Thursday's second day of action, the Pack only had one swimmer – freshman
Ashlee Urroz (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe CC) – qualify for the one of Thursday night's finals as she competed in the "C" Final in the 50 freestyle.
Urroz recorded a time of 24.38 in the "C" Final to finish in 20th place overall. Urroz qualified for the finals as she swam a time of 24.40 in Thursday morning's preliminaries.
After the two days of action, the ThunderWolves sit in fifth place out of seven teams with 111 points. Colorado Mesa continues to lead with 441 points, while the University of Wyoming is second with 372 points and Northern Arizona is third with 292 points.
Thursday's action featured preliminaries in the 500-freestyle, 200 IM and 50 freestyle in the morning sessions with the finals held on Thursday night.
In Thursday's preliminaries, freshman
Laci Denn (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Mainland Regional) was the highest finisher in the prelims with a time of 5:23.36 to finish in 32nd place, while junior
Andrea Gallardo Perez (Merida, Mexico/Iowa Central CC) was 33rd with a time of 5:29.40 and junior
Markina Evdokimoff (Joshua Tree, Calif./Yucca Valley) was 35th with a time of 6:11.47.
The next preliminary event was the 200 IM as the highest finisher for the Pack was junior
Paola C Wu (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/University of Indianapolis) as she posted a time of 2:12.87 to finish 29th. Freshman
Olivia Dannhaus (Sheridan, Wyo./Sheridan) was 30th with a time of 2:13.19 and sophomore
Carla Sanchez Guareno (Banyeres del Penedes, Spain/Institut de L'Arboc) was 37th with a time of 2:15.41.
While Urroz qualified for the "C" Finals in the 50 freestyle, five other Pack swimmers competed in Thursday's prelims in the event. In the prelims, sophomore Aleksandra Dutkowisk (Wroclaw, Poland/SMS Wroclaw) was 39th with a time of 25.54, while freshman
Margaret Laborde Lagrave (Sacramento, Calif./Saint Francis) was 41st with a time of 25.92 and freshman
McKenna Schilling (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake) was 42nd with a time of 26.06. Freshman
Abigail Boyle (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) was 45th with a time of 26.51 and junior
Nalani Wess (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock) was 49th with a time of 27.17.
The only other final event the Pack competed in on Thursday evening was in the 200 freestyle relay. In the 200 freestyle, the Pack 'A' relay team finished fifth overall with a time of 1:40.31, while the 'B' relay team placed 11th with a time of 1:44.83. The members of the 'A' relay team were Dutkowiak, Dannhaus, Laborde and Urroz, while the 'B' relay team members were Schilling, Boyle, Wess and Evdokimoff.
The meet will resume on Friday morning at 10 a.m. with preliminaries in the 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke as well as diving beginning at 12 p.m. Those preliminary events, plus the 400 medley relay will highlight the Friday evening session scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. The meet runs through Saturday.
