PUEBLO, Colo. (March 26, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's lacrosse team will wrap a four-game homestand March 27 and March 31 when the ThunderWolves welcome Adams State University Wednesday at 6 p.m. in their final nonconference game of the season and No. T-12 Colorado Mesa University Sunday in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest scheduled for 1 p.m. Both games will take place at the Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT
The ThunderWolves held their own against the undefeated (9-0) and then-No. 7 Regis Rangers Sunday and trailed by just two at the half, but the nationally-ranked visitors scored six of the first seven goals of the second half to pull away. The Pack were down four at 12-8 with 11:51 remaining, but the Rangers scored four of the final five goals to secure the win.
CSU-Pueblo won the draw control category 14-13. Regis scored on three of its nine free position shots, while the Pack netted two of their five attempts. The Rangers finished with 36 total shots with 29 on goal, while the ThunderWolves had 24 shots and 18 on goal.
Senior attack
Allison Wurscher (Tigard, Ore.) totaled three of her four goals in the first half, while senior midfielder
Taylor Christensen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) netted three of her four goals in the second frame. Christensen also added a team-high eight draw controls, a team-best five ground balls and the most caused turnovers with three of the team's eight.
Sophomore
Emily Brewer (D, St. Louis, Mo.) finished the game with four ground balls and one caused turnover.
Senior goalie
Ane Marie Horton (Long Beach, Calif.) had another strong performance in the cage and totaled 13 saves with two ground balls.
THE THUNDERWOLVES
After winning three straight, the ThunderWolves have lost two in a row to a pair of nationally-ranked opponents. CSU-Pueblo is 3-4 overall with a 1-1 RMAC record. The Pack lost 15-8 Feb. 16 at then-No. 22 Colorado Mesa to open the season.
Wurscher leads the team with 26 points, which is comprised of 15 goals and 11 assists. Her 11 assists is tied for seventh in the RMAC.
Christensen leads the team with 18 goals and is second with 20 points. She also leads the team with 34 shots with 28 on goal. Christensen is sixth in caused turnovers per game at 2.0 (14 total) and seventh in draw controls per game at 4.7 (33 total).
Ingram has played in six games and has 12 goals and 14 points. Her 14 ground balls is tied for second on the team with Christensen, while her 18 draw controls and seven caused turnovers are also second.
Horton owns a .435 save percentage to rank sixth in the RMAC. Her 73 saves is third most in the league (26th nationally), while her 10.4 saves per game is good for second in the conference (21st nationally).
Junior defender
Britney Smith (Oregon City, Ore.) leads the team with 16 ground balls and adds six caused turnovers to rank third on the squad.
The ThunderWolves rank third in the RMAC and No. 27 nationally in shots percentage, scoring on 47.0 percent of their shots. Sophomore
Emily Eller (Keller, Texas) has 10 goals on 15 shots for a .667 percentage and has put all 15 shots on goal.
The Pack are tied for fifth in the conference in assists per game (3.0) and are sixth in goals per game (11.0), points per game (14.0) and shots on goal per game (20.0). The team's two player-down goals is tied for first, while the seventh player-up goals is the second most.
MILESTONE WATCH
Senior
Taylor Christensen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is nearing some big round numbers for her career. She has 93 goals, 95 caused turnovers and 190 draw controls.
Senior
Allison Wurscher (Tigard, Ore.) has 83 career goals.
THE GRIZZLIES
The Grizzlies are 0-6 with an 0-3 mark in RMAC play. ASU has been outscored 136-12 (22.7-2.0) this season.
Savanah Penland leads the team with six goals and has taken 29 shots. Madison Gerchow adds four goals and a team-best 23 draw controls.
THE MAVERICKS
The Mavericks rank T-12th in the latest national poll and are 8-1 with the one loss coming to then-No. 4 Lindenwood, 18-15. CMU is coming off a 16-0 win against Ursuline College and will play UCCS in an RMAC affair Friday before visiting Pueblo on Sunday.
Colorado Mesa is fourth in NCAA Division II with 26.8 points per game, while its 10.3 assists per contest is good for second nationally. The Mavericks are fourth in the nation in caused turnovers per game (14.8) and ground balls per game (29.1). CMU has a 8.9 scoring margin to rank 10th in DII. The Mavericks are scoring 16.4 goals per game to rank 11th nationally, while they are allowing 7.6 goals per game to sit 12th.
Pagie Elliot has 53 points to rank seventh nationally. Olivia Hayden is 23rd with 42 points. Elliot's 42 assists is leading NCAA Division II, while Hayden' 31 goals is 22nd in the nation. Erin Koehler ranks third nationally with 3.78 caused turnovers per game, while Olivia Hayden has 3.56 caused turnovers per contest to sit fourth in DII. Goalie Lula Mitchell has an 8.48 goals against average to rank 14th nationally.
LOOKING AHEAD
The ThunderWolves hit the road for two games in Missouri April 5 and April 7. The Pack battle Rockhurst University (3 p.m. MT) April 5 and No. 6 Lindenwood University April 7 (12 p.m. MT).
