Women's Lacrosse Closes 2026 Season With Setback at Colorado Mesa

Pack Finishes Season With Most Wins Since 2019 Season

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse team concluded its 2026 season here Sunday afternoon with a 20-7 setback to Colorado Mesa in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Community Health Unity Field.

With the setback, the ThunderWolves close out the season with a 5-11 overall record and a 2-8 mark in the RMAC, while Colorado Mesa improved to 6-11 overall and 5-5 in the league. The five wins are the most in a season for the Pack since winning six games and finishing with a 6-8 record in the 2019 season. In addition, the 16 games played tie for the most in a season in program history, as the 2015 and 2016 teams each played 16 games.

The Mavericks, who earned the No. 4 seed in the RMAC Tournament, opened the contest with a goal from Courtney Murray, before sophomore attacker Emily Doane (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) tied the game at 1-1 on her 36th goal of the season midway through the opening period. Doane's 36 goals and 52 points on the season are fifth and second, respectively, on the school's single-season charts.

Following Doane's goal, the Mavs built a 4-1 lead before freshman midfielder Ainsley Jackson (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon) scored a man-down goal off an assist from freshman attacker Chloe Mora (Newport Beach, Calif./Orange Lutheran) to pull within 4-2 late in the opening period.

CMU scored the first two goals of the second period to lead 6-2, but back-to-back free position goals from junior midfielder Reese Wasmund (Portland, Ore./West Linn) and Jackson pulled the Pack within 6-4 with 6:35 left in the second period. CMU would close the period by scoring four of the final five goals to take a 10-5 lead at the half. The Pack's lone goal during that CMU flurry came from Wasmund, as she finished with three goals and an assist in her final collegiate game.

The Mavericks took control of the game in the third period, outscoring the Pack 5-0 to push their lead to 15-5 heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

In the fourth period, the Pack found the net twice as sophomore midfielder Sydney Gunnels (Dallas, Texas/Coppell) scored on a man-up opportunity off a Wasmund assist, and Wasmund added her third goal of the day on a free position attempt with 2:49 left in the game. CMU would score five goals in the final period.

In addition to Wasmund's three goals and an assist, Jackson scored two goals to push her season total to 31, which is 14th on the school's single-season chart. Doane and Jackson are the first two teammates to score 30 goals each in a season since 2018, when Alix Zierden (35), Leah Neumann (34), and current Pack head coach Taylor Ward (30) each scored 30 or more goals in a season.

Junior Breonna Mason (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) played all 60 minutes in goal and made 10 saves, added three ground balls, and a caused turnover. Mason (3-9) finished the season with 98 saves and 31 ground balls.

CMU held advantages in shots (46-13), draw controls (21-6), and ground balls (20-16). Jackson had two draws, while Mason and junior defender Dylan Retzloff (Bend, Ore./Mountain View) each had three ground balls.

The Pack was also credited with eight caused turnovers and ended the season with 178, which is third-most on the school's single-season chart. In addition, the Pack finished the season with 218 draws, which is third-most on the school's single-season chart.

Colorado Mesa got three goals each from Sadie Chappuis and Murray, while Carson Dickey, Zia Smith, and Evelynn Vissari each had two goals in the win. Courtney Havel had five of CMU's 13 assists in the game.

Heather Hawkins (6-11) played 46-plus minutes in goal, recorded two saves, allowed five goals, and had three ground balls. Sophia Bailey played the final 13:50 in goal and allowed two goals.

Sunday's game marked the final game in the careers of the Pack's four seniors. This year's four seniors were Wasmund, defender Audrey Allendorf (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls), attacker Clara Drinkwater (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown), and midfielder Sophia Rinn (Eagle, Colo./Eagle Valley).
