Women's Lacrosse Outscored 7-1 in Fourth Period of Road Setback to Westminster

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Colorado State University Pueblo battled into the fourth quarter tied, but a late surge by Westminster University proved the difference as the Griffins outscored the ThunderWolves 7-1 in the fourth period en route to suffering a 14-8 decision here Friday evening in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play at Dumke Field.

With the setback, the Pack falls to 5-10 overall and 2-7 in the RMAC, while Westminster improved to 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the league. Friday's loss eliminated the ThunderWolves from postseason contention, and the Pack will close out the 2026 regular season with a 12 p.m. game in Grand Junction, Colo., against Colorado Mesa.

The Pack controlled much of the early momentum, jumping out to a 4-2 lead after the opening period behind a balanced offensive attack, thanks to goals by junior midfielder Sophia Rinn (Eagle, Colo./Eagle Valley), redshirt freshman midfielder Sienna Rinn (Eagle, Colo./Eagle Valley), sophomore midfielder Sydney Gunnels (Dallas, Texas/Coppell) and freshman midfielder Ainsley Jackson (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon).

CSU Pueblo extended the advantage to 6-3 midway through the second period following a man-up goal by freshman attacker Chloe Mora (Newport Beach, Calif./Orange Lutheran) and a second goal from Sienna Rinn that was assisted by sophomore attacker Emily Doane (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro).

Westminster responded before halftime to trim the deficit to one, and the two sides traded goals throughout the third quarter. Sienna Rinn completed her hat trick late in the period to give CSU Pueblo a 7-6 edge, but the Griffins answered to even the score at 7-7 heading into the final frame following a goal by Madi Rogers.

After Rodgers opened the scoring in the fourth period on a man-up goal to take an 8-7 lead, the Pack tied the game at 8-8 early in the final period on an unassisted goal by Jackson. Jackson's goal was her 29th of the season.

The Griffins, though, would answer Jackson's goal by closing the contest on a 6-0 run over the final 8:54 to secure the victory and remain in third place in the league standings.

Sienna Rinn led the Pack with three goals and an assist, while Jackson added two goals. Mora, Sophia Rinn, and Gunnels each scored a goal in the loss. The Pack scored eight goals on 18 shots. Doane finished the game with two assists to push her season total to 16 and push her season point total to 51 points, which is tied for second on the school's single-season chart.

Defensively, junior goalkeeper Breonna Mason (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) recorded eight saves and a ground ball in 60 minutes of action.

CSU Pueblo held a 17-7 advantage in draw controls, led by strong efforts from Jackson and Rinn, but was outshot 32-18 and committed 24 turnovers in the contest. Jackson led the way with 10 draws, which is tied for sixth on the school's single-season chart.

Westminster was led by Jordan Williamson's four goals, including three in the decisive fourth quarter, while Rogers, Olivia Petrosky, Holly Shoughro, and Grace Szwedko each scored two goals in the win.

The Griffins also held a 42-19 edge in ground balls as junior defender Dylan Retzloff (Bend, Ore./Mountain View) had a team-high three ground balls, while Williamson had a game-high six.
