PUEBLO, Colo. (March 22, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's lacrosse team continues its four-game homestand March 24 when it hosts No. 7 Regis University in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest at the Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium. Game time Sunday is set for 1 p.m.
The ThunderWolves are 3-3 with a 1-0 mark in league play after a 1-1 week where they defeated University of Colorado Colorado Springs 16-14 in the RMAC opener Monday, then suffered a 20-10 setback to the No. 22 team in NCAA Division III, Colorado College, at home Wednesday.
The win against UCCS handed the Pack a three-game win streak, which was one victory shy of the program record. CSU-Pueblo used a 5-0 run in the second half to open a 14-10 lead in the win against the Mountain Lions. UCCS battled within two at 15-13, but senior
Allison Wurscher (A, Tigard, Ore.) closed the door with a minute left when she netted her fifth goal of the second half and eighth point in the game to help guide the Pack to the 16-14 victory.
Junior
Elyse Ingram (San Jose, Calif.) scored all three of her goals in the first half to lead a group of five more players to score at least twice. Sophomore
Madison Cunningham (Corona, Calif.) led the team with five ground balls and senior goalie
Ane Marie Horton (Long Beach, Calif.) had 12 saves.
Playing without a couple starters in the nonconference game against CC, the Pack fell 20-10. CSU-Pueblo was ahead 4-1 through 18 minutes, but a run of nine straight goals by the Tigers during the end of the first half and start of the second had the road team ahead 14-5 with 20 minutes left in regulation.
Senior
Taylor Christensen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the offense with three goals and one assist. Horton finished with 16 saves.
Wurscher leads the team with 22 points, which is comprised of 11 goals and 11 assists. Her 11 assists is tied for fifth in the RMAC, while the 1.86 assists per game is also good for fifth. With 3.67 points per game, the senior ranks 10th in the conference.
Christensen leads the team with 14 goals and is second with 16 points. She also leads the team with 27 shots with 23 on goal. Christensen is tied for eighth in caused turnovers per game at 1.83 (11 total) and eighth in draw controls per game at 4.2 (25 total).
Ingram has played in five games and has 12 goals and 14 points. Twenty-one of her 24 shots have landed on goal. Her 12 ground balls is second on the team and she adds 16 draw controls with seven caused turnovers.
Horton owns a .432 save percentage to rank fifth in the RMAC. Her 60 saves is tied for third most in the league, while her 10.0 saves per game is good for a tie for second in the conference.
Junior defender
Britney Smith (Oregon City, Ore.) leads the team with 14 ground balls and adds five caused turnovers to rank third on the squad.
The ThunderWolves rank No. 20 nationally (fourth in the RMAC) in shooting percentage, scoring on 48.6 percent of their shots. The ThunderWolves have six players that have scored at least six goals and three of them have shooting percentages above .500. Sophomore
Emily Eller (Keller, Texas) has nine goals on 13 shots for a .692 percentage and has put all 13 shots on goal.
The Pack are fifth in the conference in assists per game (3.33) and are sixth in goals per game (11.33), points per game (14.67) and shots on goal per game (20.33).
Regis is 7-0 this season and ranks No. 7 in Division II. Their undefeated record includes three wins against nationally-ranked opponents and a 3-0 road record. The Rangers rank in the top 20 in multiple statistical categories nationally and are top 10 in shot percentage (2nd, 55.7%), free position percentage (3rd, 60.5%) and turnovers per game (10th, 15.0).
Sarah Myres has 38 goals to rank fifth nationally and first in the RMAC. She ranks fifth in Division II with 1.71 free position goals per game and sixth with 51 points. Sarah Kate Dhom is 25th nationally with 2.43 caused turnovers per game. Goalie Ellie Crawford is seventh in the nation (first in the RMAC) with a .546 save percentage and ranks 14th nationally with 71 saves.
Following the contest with Regis, the ThunderWolves remain home for two more games. March 27 will feature a nonconference meeting with Adams State University beginning at 6 p.m., followed by an RMAC game against No. 14 Colorado Mesa University March 31 at 1 p.m.
