Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (May 16, 2015) ~ No. 4 seed Colorado State University-Pueblo dropped its first game of the NCAA South Central Region Tournament Saturday as No. 6 seed St. Mary's University downed the ThunderWolves, 6-0, at Suplizio Field.
With the loss, the Pack (41-15) will face No. 3 seed Angelo State Sunday at noon in an elimination contest. The winner of that game advances to play St. Mary's (41-15) in the title contest at 3:30 p.m. CSU-Pueblo has already defeated Angelo State in the tournament, winning 9-8 in the first round on Thursday.
The Pack finished the contest against the Rattlers with no runs on seven hits, three errors and nine runners left on base. St. Mary's tallied six runs on 12 hits, three errors and also left nine players aboard.
Rattlers' starting pitcher Cole Hybner went the distance in a seven-hit shutout. The left hander struck out four batters and walked just one to improve to 2-1 on the season.
CSU-Pueblo starter Thomas Bevington (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) suffered the loss after giving up three runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
Offensively, Dominick Bregar (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) paced the ThunderWolves with two hits in four at-bats. Five other players tallied one hit apiece for CSU-Pueblo. For St. Mary's, Scott Jones went 4-for-5 with a home run.
The Rattlers jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first three innings thanks to a two-run home run by AJ Perez and a solo shot by Jones.
The Pack put two runners on base in both the fourth and fifth innings but weren't able to come through with a RBI hit as the score remained 3-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth.
St. Mary's extended its lead to 5-0 with two runs in the home-half of the fifth frame. Another run in the seventh pushed the advantage to 6-0.
In the eighth and ninth innings, CSU-Pueblo placed two runners on base in each frame but stranded all four of them as the Rattlers earned the 6-0 win.
