DENVER, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 21, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo split a Sunday doubleheader with Metro State, falling 6-2 before coming back with an 11-2 victory.
The ThunderWolves recovered from a flat outing in the first game Sunday, which saw the Pack muster just six hits - all singles - as the Pack couldn't string together much offense. The biggest highlight of the game was the relief appearance by Bodacious Ball (Jr., Okanogan, Wash.), who allowed just one hit and struck out two in 4-2/3 innings of relief.
In the second game, though, the Pack got back to business as it answered a first-inning 1-0 Metro State lead with 11 runs to go up 11-1 by the 5th inning.
Cameron Buckles (Jr., Parker, Colo.) fell a home run short of the cycle as he went 3-for-4, driving in two runs and scoring twice.
Scott Hoyt (Jr., Longmont, Colo.) was also solid, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, including a three-run home run in the 4th inning that put the Pack up 8-1 at the time.
On the mound, Sean Gavin (Sr., Canyon Country, Calif.) earned his second straight win with a five-inning outing, allowing two runs on nine hits while striking out one. Kyle Ginter (Sr., Chino Hills, Calif.) and Kevin Megyeri (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) showed that Pack relievers were becoming a more consistent group, combining to allow just one hit over two scoreless innings of relief.
CSU-Pueblo, now just one game behind New Mexico Highlands in the RMAC Plains Division, readies itself for a make-or-break series with the Highlands on the road with the division title likely at stake. That four-game series begins Friday.
