Nebraska-Kearney 19, CSU-Pueblo 9
KEARNEY, Neb. - CSU-Pueblo gave up 19 runs Friday, undoing 15
ThunderWolf hits as the Pack fell 19-9 at Nebraska-Kearney.
The game was a shootout from the beginning, as the ThunderWolves
scored runs in all but three innings and the Lopers scored in all
but two innings.
CSU-Pueblo took its first lead in the third inning when it went
on top of Kearney 5-2 after a trio of RBI singles. But
Kearney evened the score immeditately, tying the game at five after
three innings complete.
An RBI single by Jon Proesl (Sr., California City,
Calif.) and an RBI double by Juan Martinez (Sr.,
Caricuao, Venezuela) put the Pack back up 7-5 in the top
of the 4th, but again the Lopers produced a three-run inning to go
up 8-7 on CSU-Pueblo, never to lose the lead again.
The ThunderWolves entered the bottom of the 7th inning with a
fighting chance, trailing just 11-9, but a six-run 7th inning by
the Lopers all but ended the Pack's night.
The loss is a costly one, as the ThunderWolves fall out of first
place in the RMAC Plains Division for the first time since early
March. CSU-Pueblo, now trailing Nebraska-Kearney by a
half-game in the standings, will need two wins in the series-ending
doubleheader tomorrow vs. the Lopers.
