STOCKTON, Calif. - After winning earlier this season at The Reserve at Spanos Park, the 15th-ranked Colorado State University Pueblo men's golf team will have some work to do heading into round two of the NCAA Division II West/South Central Super Regional after the ThunderWolves opened postseason play with a six-over-par round on Thursday in Stockton, California.
The ThunderWolves, who are making their ninth straight NCAA postseason appearance under Head Coach Josh Koschke, sit tied for 15th place after the opening 18 holes of the 54-hole regional tournament. Despite the slow start, CSU Pueblo remains firmly within striking distance of the top five, sitting just eight shots back of the fifth and final qualifying position for the NCAA Division II National Championships.
Senior captain Archie Wyatt paced the ThunderWolves in round one with a steady one-under-par 71. Wyatt carded four birdies during his opening round and was consistent throughout the day to give CSU Pueblo a strong veteran performance at the top of the lineup.
Agustin Pizzorno also provided a solid round for the Pack, finishing at one-over-par 73. After opening his day with a two-over 38 on his first nine holes, Pizzorno bounced back nicely on the back side, playing his final nine holes at one-under par to keep momentum moving in the right direction late in the round.
Paraic McGrath and Kyle Leydon each finished with three-over-par 75s, while CSU Pueblo standout Marius Dosiere battled through a difficult opening round to shoot a five-over-par 77.
The ThunderWolves entered the week with confidence after capturing the Super Regional Preview tournament title at the same course back in February, and with two rounds remaining, CSU Pueblo will look to make another climb up the leaderboard on moving day Friday.
Western Washington leads the tournament after firing a five-under-par team score in round one, while West Texas A&M sits second at four-under par. Cal State San Marcos is third, while Cal State San Bernardino and Cameron currently occupy the fourth and fifth positions in a tie.
CSU Pueblo will tee off in round two Friday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. Mountain Time (7:30 a.m. Pacific) as the ThunderWolves continue their push toward a return trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships for the first time since 2022.
