Josh Koschke is in his seventh season as CSU-Pueblo's Director of Golf (in charge of both the men's and women's programs), his 11th season as CSU-Pueblo's men's golf coach.
Koschke coached the ThunderWolves Women's Golf Team to the 2018-19 RMAC Championship and the Pack's first NCAA Regional appearance since moving to the West Region. Koschke's ThunderWolves dominated RMAC competition during this season, finishing 57-1-1 against RMAC competition. In 2018-19 Koschke earned RMAC Women's Coach of the Year honors. He also coached Orakorn Thirayatorn to the RMAC Individual Championship.
In his eight seasons as Director of Golf, Koschke has coach four RMAC Women's Golf Individual Champions (Thirayatorn, Jacquelyn Porman, Leina Kim, and Julie Sanchez). Koschke has also produced four RMAC Golfers of the Year. His golfers have earned 20 All-RMAC selections on the women's side.
Under Koschke, CSU-Pueblo qualified for five-straight NCAA Division II Men's Golf Super Regional Tournaments from 2010-2014, part of the program's amazing 13-year streak qualifying for Regionals. Additionally, Koschke guided the Pack Men's Golf Team to NCAA Regional appearances in both 2017 and 2018.
The ThunderWolves Men's team was ranked 21st in the nation at the end of the 2019-20 season. Koschke helped Andrew Ni earn D-II Ping All-American and All-District honors in 2020. In their lone tournament of the shortened spring season, Koschke's ThunderWolves defeated 10 ranked teams at the Las Vegas Desert Classic.
Koschke has also helped Courtney Ewing qualify for the NCAA Regional as an individual in 2018. Ewing would also be named RMAC Golfer of the Year and RMAC Academic Golfer of the Year.
In the 2014-15 season, Koschke helped women's golfer Leina Kim earn WGCA First-Team All-America, All-West Region, RMAC Player of the Year and RMAC First-Team All-Conference accolades. Under Koschke's guidance, Kim won the RMAC Women's Golf Championship, placed third at the NCAA West Regional and 12th at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship.
To go along with Kim's accomplishments, in 2014-15 Koschke guided Jacob Allenback to his first-career RMAC All-Conference nod and a berth in the NCAA Men's Golf South Central Region Tournament. Also on the men's team, Neil Tillman was tabbed the RMAC Freshman of the Year. Additionally, Koschke helped Julie Sanchez garner RMAC First-Team All-Conference honors. Â
Koschke helped lead the men’s program to a second-place finish at the 2014 RMAC Championship. A pair of Pack golfers earned all-conference honors, with Matt Porter being named to the second team and Alex Tiong tabbed to the third team.
In his first year as the head coach of the women’s squad, Koschke led the ThunderWolves to their second RMAC title in three years. Leina Kim was named RMAC Women’s Golfer of the Year, advancing to the NCAA regional for the second consecutive season. Koschke’s squad placed three players on the all-conference squad with Kim and Julie Sanchez earning first-team honors and Domi DiNallo landing on the second team.
In 2011, Koschke led the ThunderWolves men's program to its first RMAC title since 2004, winning the 2011 Spring Championship and eventually qualifying for the NCAA Division II Championships for the first time since 1994. For his efforts, Koschke was named the 2011 RMAC Coach of the Year.
In 2011, despite losing one of his top golfers to injury, the team still claimed its 11th consecutive NCAA regional berth and saw its top golfer, James Berry, finish a playoff hole away from qualifying individually for nationals.Â
In his first year as the Pack's head coach, he helped elevate a squad that was one of the lowest-ranked teams in the NCAA Division II Central Region during the Fall of 2009 and lead it on a dramatic upswing, finishing as one of the top teams in the region and earning an at-large berth to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament, marking the ninth consecutive year that the ThunderWolves qualified for regionals. At present, the ThunderWolves' streak of consecutive regional appearances now stands at 12 and counting.
In addition to his duties as CSU-Pueblo's golf coach, he was the Director of Marketing and Promotions for the CSU-Pueblo Department of Athletics from 2012-2017. In this role, he directed the in-game entertainment at CSU-Pueblo athletic events as well as plans the department's advertising and community outreach for the year.
Prior to being named the Director of Marketing and Promotions, he was the Director of Instruction at the Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, the ThunderWolves' home course, and through this relationship, brings a built-in working relationship with the CSU-Pueblo men's golf team. He had also helped establish a golfer development program and junior golf program at the course, and has had contact with the top high school and collegiate golfers in the area.
As a golfer, Koschke was the team captain on the ThunderWolves' RMAC Championship team in 2004, when he finished second at the 2003 RMAC Fall Championships behind teammate Travis Morton. He also finished third in the 2007 Colorado Section Assistants Championship and qualified for and competed in the 2002 United States Amateur Public Links Championship. He was also a member of two national-qualifying teams at Lamar Community College in Lamar, Colo., winning four JuCo tournaments in his time at Lamar. As a prep at Standley Lake High School in Westminster, he played in three Colorado State High School state tournaments.
