PUEBLO, Colo. (April 22, 2026) – The Colorado State University Pueblo Department of Athletics announced today that it will discontinue its women's tennis program at the conclusion of the 2026 spring season.
The decision follows a comprehensive review of departmental resources, operating expenses and competitive opportunities, particularly given that the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) does not sponsor women's tennis. Current student-athletes were informed during an in-person meeting and will continue to receive guidance and support as they evaluate their academic and athletic futures.
"Decisions like this are incredibly difficult and come with a heavy heart," said CSU Pueblo Vice President of Athletics and Strategic Partnerships,
Dr. Paul Plinske. "Our coaches and student-athletes have represented CSU Pueblo with tremendous pride, integrity, and resilience, and this decision is not a reflection of their efforts or commitment. We are deeply appreciative of all they have given to this program and remain fully committed to supporting them in the days ahead."
The current women's tennis roster includes six student-athletes, three of whom are seniors competing in their final season of eligibility. CSU Pueblo is committed to supporting all impacted student-athletes through this transition by assisting with potential transfer opportunities, honoring current scholarships in accordance with NCAA and university policies and continuing to provide academic support resources.
"We are grateful to Coach
Chris Roman for his hard work and dedication since joining the Pack family. He is an outstanding coach and an even better person," Plinske said. "These are wonderful student-athletes who are great ambassadors for CSU Pueblo and have made a difference on our campus."
With this change, CSU Pueblo remains committed to supporting its 19 remaining varsity programs and ensuring student-athletes have the resources necessary to compete at a high level.
"We remain steadfast in our mission to support our student-athletes and enhance their collegiate experience," Plinske said. "This decision positions CSU Pueblo Athletics for long-term sustainability and success."
CSU Pueblo previously sponsored men's tennis as a varsity sport, but the program was discontinued following the 2019-20 academic year due to lack of conference affiliation and long-term sustainability.
