ThunderWolves Open New Year with Key RMAC Matchups at UCCS, vs. Colorado Christian

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball team returns to action this week as the ThunderWolves open the 2026 calendar with a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contests, beginning with a road matchup at UCCS on Thursday before returning home to Massari Arena to host Colorado Christian on Saturday.

CSU Pueblo enters the week riding a three-game winning streak and holding a 7-5 overall record, including a 3-1 mark in RMAC play. The Pack has not played since closing out the 2025 calendar year with a 70-50 road win at Northern New Mexico on Dec. 17, but has gone 6-1 over its last seven games after opening the season with a 1-4 record.

The ThunderWolves have been especially effective defensively during that stretch, holding eight of their last nine opponents to 62 points or fewer and ranking third in the RMAC in scoring defense at 59.4 points per game. CSU Pueblo is 6-0 this season when limiting opponents to 60 points or fewer and has won 31 of its last 34 games dating back to the 2022-23 season when holding teams under that mark.

Thursday at UCCS

The ThunderWolves will travel north to Colorado Springs on Thursday for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff at the Gallogly Events Center against UCCS. The Mountain Lions enter the matchup at 6-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play, having won two straight games.

UCCS is led by head coach Misty Wilson (Tarleton State, '01), who is in her third season at the helm of the Mountain Lions and has compiled a 48-26 overall record during her tenure in Colorado Springs.

The Mountain Lions are paced by junior guard Amyah Moore Allen, who has emerged as one of the premier two-way players in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Moore Allen is currently fourth in the RMAC in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game, to go along with 4.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest. She is coming off a dominant performance in last season's meeting in Pueblo, where she poured in 35 points to lead the Mountain Lions to a victory.

CSU Pueblo has been strong away from home this season, posting a 3-1 road record and a perfect 2-0 mark in RMAC road games, with conference wins coming at Chadron State and South Dakota Mines. The Pack is also riding a three-game road winning streak entering the contest.

Defensively, CSU Pueblo ranks among the RMAC's top units, sitting near the top of the league in steals (11.0 per game), blocked shots (3.0 per game), and turnover margin (+4.0). Junior guard Wynter Jones leads the Pack defensively, ranking among the RMAC leaders in steals, while the ThunderWolves have forced 20 or more turnovers in five games this season.

Offensively, senior guard Seneya Martinez leads the Pack at 10.5 points per game and has scored in double figures in seven games this season. Genesis Sweetwine adds 9.6 points per contest while leading the team in assists (3.0 per game), and freshman forward Jada Bobb has provided an efficient interior presence, shooting over 50 percent from the field.

CSU Pueblo holds a 45-25 advantage in the all-time series with UCCS and has won seven of the last 10 meetings, though the Mountain Lions snapped the Pack's home winning streak in the series last season.

Saturday vs. Colorado Christian

CSU Pueblo returns home on Saturday to host Colorado Christian in a 1:00 p.m. contest at Massari Arena. The Cougars enter the weekend at 4-8 overall and 1-3 in RMAC play.

Colorado Christian is led by head coach Carissa Ratliff (Calvin College, '13), who is in her second season guiding the Cougars and has posted a 14-26 overall record during her tenure.

On the offensive end, the Cougars are paced by junior guard Ja'Shelle Johnson, who averages just under 10 points per game and serves as Colorado Christian's primary scoring option.

The ThunderWolves will look to continue their recent success against Colorado Christian, having won three straight in the series, including a 75-66 road victory last season. CSU Pueblo also owns a 19-7 advantage in the all-time series when playing the Cougars inside Massari Arena.

CSU Pueblo has been solid at home this season, posting wins over Westminster, Northern New Mexico, and Western New Mexico. The Pack has been particularly effective when sharing the basketball, ranking fourth in the RMAC in assists per game (14.7) and second in assist-to-turnover ratio.

Anyla Owens has provided a spark from the perimeter, shooting a team-best 37.7 percent from three-point range and tying a school record earlier this season with nine made three-pointers in a game. Owens leads the Pack with 26 made treys on the year, while CSU Pueblo ranks first in the RMAC in three-point attempts per game (26.0) and makes (8.0).

Weekend Outlook

This week's match-ups mark the fifth and sixth RMAC games of the season for the ThunderWolves as they resume conference play following nearly a three-week break. CSU Pueblo enters the weekend having won three straight games and six of its last seven overall.

Under seventh-year head coach Tommie Johnson, who enters the weekend with a 90-87 overall record at CSU Pueblo, the Pack will look to carry its momentum into the heart of conference play and continue climbing the RMAC standings. CSU Pueblo has won 43 games over the past two-plus seasons and is coming off an 18-win campaign in 2024-25, its most victories since the 2021-22 season.

Tip-off is set for Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in Colorado Springs and Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Massari Arena.
