COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State University Pueblo swimming wrapped up a strong second day of competition at the Colorado College Classic on Saturday night at Schlessman Natatorium in Colorado Springs, turning in multiple event victories, podium finishes, and a relay win to close out the evening.
The ThunderWolves opened the night in dominant fashion in the women's 200 IM, sweeping the top two spots as Aline Gutierrez captured first place with a time of 2:15.57, while Carla Sanchez Guareno followed close behind in second at 2:18.18. CSU Pueblo continued to rack up points in the sprint freestyle events, highlighted by Angela Pantke's runner-up finish in the women's 100 freestyle (54.00) and Aria Chase placing sixth, with additional scoring coming from Olivia Dannhaus and Margaret Laborde Lagrave in the B final.
In the women's 200 backstroke, the Pack once again owned the pool as Laci Denn claimed first place with a winning time of 2:14.59. Laborde Lagrave added another podium finish by taking third, while McKenna Schilling finished sixth to give CSU Pueblo three scorers in the A final. Denn later doubled back with a sixth-place finish in the 100 butterfly, while Gutierrez added a third-place finish in the same event.
Distance swimming proved to be another strength for the ThunderWolves on day two. Andrea Reyes delivered a standout performance in the women's 500 freestyle, winning the event in 5:19.77. Aleksandra Dutkowiak and Sarah Fransson followed closely behind, finishing third and fourth, respectively, as CSU Pueblo placed three swimmers inside the top four.
The night concluded with the women's 400 medley relay, where the ThunderWolves' "A" squad of Sanchez Guareno, Dannhaus, Reyes, and Chase took first place in a tight race, touching the wall in 4:03.78 to edge out Colorado College. CSU Pueblo's "B" relay also reached the podium, finishing third overall.
With another productive session in the books, the Pack showed depth across strokes and distances while stacking points in both individual and relay events. CSU Pueblo returns to the pool for the final day of the Colorado College Classic on Sunday in Colorado Springs.
