Women's Tennis Opens Season Saturday at Colorado College Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's tennis team opened its 2025-26 season here Saturday by participating in the Colorado College Invitational held at Memorial Park.

On the first day of action at the event, the Pack had seven players participate in both singles and doubles flights.

In Flight 'A' Singles, the Pack had three players competing – freshman Fernanda Martinez (Queretaro, Mexico/International School of Queretaro), senior Margot Aebischer (Etupes, France/Eastern Arizona College), and freshman Ainoha Salo (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Lleo XIII).

Meanwhile, in Flight 'B' Singles, four Pack players competed – sophomore MaKayla Martinez (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo County), senior Bella Hernandez (Rocklin, Calif./MSU Denver), senior Laney Reddick (Sacramento, Calif./MSU Denver), and junior Yelena Travica (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Maples Collegiate).

Six of those seven players, except McKayla Martinez, also played in the Doubles 'A' Flight.

All three of the Pack's players in Flight 'A' singles lost both of their matches as Martinez fell in a third-set tiebreaker in the round of 16 to Colorado Mesa's Valentina Gonzalez, 7-5, 6-7 (7-3), 10-6 and then fell to Colorado Mesa's Catalina Ballon (6-2, 7-5) in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket, while Aebischer opened play on Saturday with a straight set (6-1, 7-5) loss in the round of 16 to Colorado Mesa's Devyn Rodriguez and then fell in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket to Western New Mexico's Lucia Carmena, 6-3, 6-3, and Salo fell in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) to Colorado College's Allyson Lowe and then fell to Colorado College's Lindsay Popeo (6-1, 6-2) in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. Salo is scheduled to meet Aebischer on Sunday morning, while Martinez will also face an unknown opponent on Sunday morning.

In Flight 'B' Singles, MaKayla Martinez, Hernandez, and Reddick each had first-round byes, while Travica fell in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) to Colorado Mesa's Taylor Nokes in the round of 16 and will meet Reddick in a consolation final match on Sunday.

Reddick would fall in her quarterfinal round match to Colorado Mesa's Nadia Alden (6-3, 6-2) to set up her consolation final match with Travica.

Martinez fell in straight sets (6-0, 6-3) in the quarterfinals to Colorado Mesa's Sophie Hartman and will face Alden in a consolation semifinal match on Sunday.

Hernandez would fall in a third-set tiebreaker in the quarterfinals (6-3, 2-6, 10-2) to Colorado Mesa's Keelin Sills and will face Western New Mexico's Xaviera Melgar in a consolation semifinal match on Sunday.

Along with singles, the Pack also played three Flight 'A' Doubles matches as Aebischer paired with Fernanda Martinez and fell 6-1 to Colorado Mesa's duo of Ballon and Delia Maier, while Reddick and Hernandez fell (6-1) to Mesa's duo of Gonzalez and Hartman and Travica and Salo fell 7-5 to Mesa's duo of Sills and Nokes.

In Sunday's round two of the Flight 'A' Doubles back draw, all three Pack doubles teams will compete beginning at 12 p.m. Aebischer and Martinez will meet Colorado College's Lucia Moravek and Aspen Young, while Hernandez and Reddick will meet Colorado College's Avery Hickman and Allyson Lowe, and Travica/Salo will meet CC's Popeo and Meredith Waters.

The Pack will conclude play in the season-opening event on Sunday morning, beginning in singles at 9 a.m.
