TYLER, Texas – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's tennis team earned four victories on the opening day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Central Regional held here at the Summers Tennis Center and Tyler Junior College.

CSU Pueblo sent six players to the event, as four of them played in the 'A' Singles Draw and two played in the 'B' Singles Draw that featured three pool play rounds. Meanwhile, two of the doubles teams played in the 'A' Draw, and the third doubles team played in the 'B' pool play draw.

The Pack players who competed in the 'A' Draw singles and doubles were senior Margot Aebischer (Etupes, France/Eastern Arizona College), senior Bella Hernandez (Rocklin, Calif./MSU Denver), freshman Fernanda Martinez (Queretaro, Mexico/International School of Queretaro), and senior Laney Reddick (Sacramento, Calif./MSU Denver). The two 'B' Draw singles and doubles performers were junior Yelena Travica (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Maples Collegiate) and sophomore MaKayla Martinez (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo County).

Two of the wins came in the Singles 'B' Draw as Travica won her match of pool play against Texas A&M-Kingsville's Yasmin El Fadili 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), while MaKayla Martinez won her third pool play match over Lubbock Christian's Ariel Green, who withdrew due to injury.

The Pack's other two wins came in doubles as Aebischer and Fernanda Martinez picked up an 8-6 victory over UT-Permian Basin's duo of Paige Sitanggang and Sophia Rashid in a round of 16 consolation 'A' Doubles Draw match and then earned a bye in the next round to advance to a Friday afternoon quarterfinal match against Lubbock Christian's duo of Axelle Jacquemin and Andrea DeBernardo. The quarterfinal match is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. MT.

Meanwhile, the other doubles win came in the 'B' Draw as Travica and Martinez earned a win by default when Lubbock Christian's duo of Ariel Green and Gabriela Franco withdrew. Those two will play a third and final pool play match on Friday at 2:15 p.m. MT against UTPB's duo of Sophia Crosby and Senna Kingsmith.

In the 'A' Singles Draw, the Pack's players lost each of their matches as Hernandez fell 6-0, 6-0 to TAMU-Kingsville's Lilly-Isabelle Muraske, while Aebischer fell 6-3, 6-0 to Gia Posito of St. Mary's, Fernanda Martinez fell 6-3, 6-2 to UT-Dallas' Katherine Robinson and Reddick fell to Cameron's Alexa Garcia 6-0, 6-0.

All four Pack players also fell in the Consolation 'A' Singles Draw round of 32, but the Pack players won a total of 16 games in those four consolation matches.

The tournament will continue through Saturday, with all matches over the next two days being held at UT-Tyler's Summers Tennis Center.
