Baseball Earns No. 3 Seed in RMAC Tournament, Faces No. 4 Seeded MSU Denver in Wednesday's Opening Round

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Thanks to its three wins this weekend at UCCS and MSU Denver's three losses at Colorado Mesa, the ThunderWolves secured the No. 3 seed in the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament that is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 7 at regular season RMAC champion Colorado Mesa's The Diamond at Hamilton Ballpark as announced by the league late Saturday evening.

The Pack, who finished the regular season with a 32-18 overall record and tied for third in the league with a 22-10 record, will open the RMAC Tournament with an 11 a.m. game on Wednesday, May 7 against No. 4 seeded MSU Denver in the first of three first round games in the double elimination tournament. 

CSU Pueblo's 32 wins this season as the most in a season for the ThunderWolves since posting a 41-16 record during the 2015, while the 22 RMAC wins are the most for the Pack since going 28-10 in league play during the 2015 season. 

During the regular season, the Pack and Roadrunners split their four-game series at CSU Pueblo's Rawlings Field. The Pack won the series opener, 17-12 and took the series finale, 12-4, while MSU Denver won the second game of the series, 21-15 and picked up a 13-3 win the third game of the series. In the series, MSU Denver outscored the Pack, 50-47 and outhit the Pack, 55-54.

Meanwhile, MSU Denver enters the tournament sporting a 30-20 overall record and a tied for third in the league with a 22-10 record. The Roadrunners, though, come into the postseason having lost two straight games and three of its final four games of the regular season after falling 3-1 this weekend at Colorado Mesa. In the series, the Mavericks outscored the Roadrunners, 41-21, including falling 13-3 in Saturday's regular season finale.

CSU Pueblo and MSU Denver have met 102 times previously on the diamond since 2009. The Pack holds a 63-51 all-time lead in the series, but the Roadrunners have won 10 of the last 14 games in series, including winning the series in both 2024 and 2023. The Pack, though, have won three of the last five games in the series, including picking up a 16-5 win in an elimination round game at the 2024 RMAC Tournament in Grand Junction, Colo. The Pack is 37-20 in the series at home, while MSU Denver leads 22-16 at their place and the Pack holds a 47-32 lead all-time in conference games. The teams have met six times previously in the RMAC Tournament since 2013 as MSU Denver holds 4-3 record in the RMAC Tournament against the Pack.

Regular-season champion and nationally 15th-ranked Colorado Mesa, who went 36-11 overall and 26-4 in the league play, is the No. 1 seed after claiming its 13th consecutive RMAC regular season this season will open the tournament with 3 p.m. game on Wednesday, May 7 against No. 6 seeded UCCS, who went 23-24 overall and 12-18 in the league after closing the regular season by losing seven of its final eight games with its lone win being a 6-5 win in Friday's second game against the Pack.

The other first round match-up on the opening day of the RMAC Tournament will feature No. 2 seeded Regis, who is sporting a 34-14 overall and was 24-6 in the league, facing No. 5 seeded Adams State, who is 17-33 overall and 13-19 in the league. These two teams will close out the first day of the tournament at 7 p.m. ASU and Regis closed the regular season this weekend in Alamosa, Colo., with the Rangers sweeping all four games. The Grizzlies enter the postseason having been swept in its final RMAC series against CSU Pueblo and Regis.

This year's RMAC Tournament, which runs through Saturday, May 10, is a double-elimination format with the winner of the tournament earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament, which is scheduled for May 15-17. In the latest NCAA Division II South Central Regional rankings, the Pack is one of three RMAC schools ranked in the Top 8 as Colorado Mesa is No. 3, and Regis is ranked No. 5.

Last season, the Pack earned the No. 6 in the RMAC Tournament, as they posted a 1-2 record as they opened with a 5-3 loss in the first round to top-seeded Colorado Mesa, before earning a 16-5 elimination round win over No. 5 seeded MSU Denver and falling 4-1 in the second elimination round on May 10 against No. 3 seeded Colorado School of Mines.

The Pack, who are making its fourth consecutive trip to the RMAC Tournament, have won five RMAC Tournament titles in program history with the most recent title coming in 2013. In addition to winning five tournament titles, the Pack has also had five runner-up finishes since 2002. Since 2006, the Pack the Pack have posted a 24-32 record in the tournament and have been runners-up in 2006, 2012, 2014 and 2016 and won tournament titles in 2013, 2009, 2004, 1996 and 1994.

During the 2025 regular season, the Pack went 12-8 against the five other schools that qualified for the RMAC Tournament as they were 4-0 against Adams State, 3-1 against UCCS, 2-2 against both MSU Denver and Regis and 1-3 against Colorado Mesa.

Since its tournament runner-up finish at the 2016 RMAC Tournament, the Pack has gone 6-14 in the tournament as they have gone 1-2 the past four seasons in the tournament, while going 0-2 in the both 2017 and 2019 and 2-2 in the 2018.
