GREENSBORO, N.C. – Colorado State University Pueblo placed two players on the 2025 South Central Region Teams that were announced on Wednesday by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings.
Senior first baseman
Christian Castaneda (El Paso, Texas/Otero JC) was tabbed a First-Team All-Region selection, while senior pitcher
Travis Farrell (Las Vegas, Nev./Otero JC) earned Second-Team All-Region honors. The All-Region honors are the third this postseason for both Castaneda and Farrell as Castaneda was named a First-Team All-South Central Region honoree by both the D2CCA and NCBWA, while Farrell was a First-Team All-South Central Region selection by the NCBWA and a Second-Team selection from the D2CCA.
The ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams were voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association in each of the eight NCAA regions and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-America Committee, which is chaired by Lynn University head baseball coach Rudy Garbalosa. All first-team All-Region performers are now eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-American honors, which will be announced on Friday, May 30.
Castaneda earns his First-Team ABCA/Rawlings All-South Central Region selection after being named a First-Team All-RMAC selection this season. On the season, he ranked in the Top 10 in the RMAC in batting average (.443), hits (81), runs (63), doubles (24), on-base percentage (.544), walks (36), RBI (69), total bases (141) and slugging percentage (.770). His .443 batting average in fifth in NCAA Division II, while his 24 doubles are fourth nationally in Division II.
During the 2024 season, he was a two-time RMAC Hitter of the Week and also earned NCBWA South Central Region Hitter of the Week on April 30 and is the school's all-time leader in slugging percentage (.754), and is second in school history in doubles (61), home runs (42), RBI (184), total bases (410) and is eighth in career runs scored (156) and hits (221). His 69 RBI this season are ninth on the school's single-season chart, while the 24 doubles are tied for ninth on the school's single-season chart. Ended the season with a 60-game reached base streak dating to last season as he was on base in all 52 games this season and finished last season with an eight game reached base streak. He tallied 21 multi-hit games and 16 multiple RBI games and has had 64 career multi-hit games and 45 career multiple RBI games and tallied a career 1.250 OPS, including a 1.313 OPS this season.
Meanwhile, Farrell earns his Second-Team ABCA/Rawlings All-South Central Region accolade as a pitcher after being named both the RMAC Pitcher of the Year and a First-Team All-RMAC selection. On the season, he was 8-3 with a 5.09 ERA and in 13 starts, he tossed one complete game and one shutout and struck out 64 and walked 22 in 74.1 innings of work.
During the 2025 regular season, he was named an RMAC Pitcher of the Week and led the RMAC in wins (8) and was second in ERA (5.09), strikeouts (64), walks allowed per nine innings (2.86) and was third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.91) and starts (13). Posted six quality starts on the season and tossed at least six innings in nine starts and had at least five strikeouts in eight of his 13 starts. His 28 career starts on the mound are sixth on the school's all-time chart, while his 150 strikeouts are tied for seventh on the school's all-time chart.
CSU Pueblo was one of three RMAC schools to have at least two players to the ABCA/Rawlings All-South Central Region Teams as MSU Denver had three players honored and Colorado Mesa had two players recognized. The Pack was also one of nine schools from the South Central Region to have multiple players earn ABCA/Rawlings All-Region accolades as Angelo State led the way with seven selections, including two first teamers, while South Central Regional Champion UT-Tyler had six players honored, including five first teamers. West Texas A&M, Lubbock Christian and MSU Denver each had three overall selections, while CSU Pueblo, Colorado Mesa, St. Edward's and Eastern New Mexico had two players selected.
Along with announcing the All-South Central Region Teams, the ABCA/Rawlings also announced the region's Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year and this year's honorees were Lubbock Christian senior third baseman Brevin McCool, who was tabbed the Region Player of the Year, while Lubbock Christian senior Ryan Markwardt was named the Region Pitcher of the Year.
The Pack duo helped lead the Pack to a 32-20 overall record and tied for third in the RMAC with a 22-10 record. The 32 wins are the most for the program since posting a 41-16 record during the 2015 season, while the 22 RMAC wins are the most for the Pack since going 28-10 in league play during the 2015 season.
