PUEBLO, Colo. — Colorado State University Pueblo Women's Basketball tips off its 2025–26 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule this week with a pair of home match-ups at Massari Arena.
The ThunderWolves, who will complete a season-long six-game homestand with this week's two RMAC games, host Westminster University on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 5:30 p.m., before concluding the weekend with a 1 p.m. contest against Western Colorado on Saturday, Dec. 6. The Pack enters the opening weekend of RMAC play on a two-game winning streak and look to carry that momentum into conference play.
CSU Pueblo, which is sporting a 3-4 overall record, enters this week's RMAC action having won two straight games after collecting home wins last weekend against Western New Mexico (84-34) and Northern New Mexico (73-49). Those two wins snapped a four-game losing skid for the Pack that began after the Pack opened the season with an 84-80 win over Nebraska-Kearney at the Division II Tipoff Classic at the Trailhead held at MSU Billings.
Heading into this weekend's action, the Pack, who are coached by seventh-year head coach
Tommie Johnson, continues to showcase one of the RMAC's top defensive units, holding opponents to just 60.3 points per game, and ranks among the league leaders in field goal percentage defense (37.8), three-point field goal defense (29.1 percent) and blocked shots (3.3).
Junior forward
Anyla Owens (Colorado Springs, Colo./Otero JC) highlighted last weekend's action with a record-tying performance, matching the CSU Pueblo single-game mark with nine made three-pointers on her way to a career-high 30 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Northern Mexico. Owens, who is averaging 7.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, leads the RMAC in three-point percentage (41.2 percent) and ranks third in the league in three-pointers per game (2.3). Owens' 30 points are the most this season by an RMAC player, while her nine made treys are tied for the second-most this season in a game by a Division II player.
Senior guard
Seneya Martinez (Windsor, Colo./Appalachian State) enters the weekend leading the Pack in scoring at 11.3 points per game and has reached double figures in five contests, including a career-high 25 points in the season opener against Nebraska-Kearney. In addition to Martinez, senior guard
Genesis Sweetwine (Aurora, Colo./Northeastern JC) adds 10.7 points per game while shooting 51 percent from the floor and 36 percent from the 3-point line. She has scored in double figures in four games, including a career-high 22 points in the season opener against Nebraska-Kearney.
Other key performers in the early going this season for the Pack are freshman forward
Jada Bobb (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest) and junior forward
Dasani Nesbit (Billings, Mont./Gillette College). Bobb is averaging 8.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game and is shooting a team-best 54 percent from the field, and has tallied two double-digit scoring games, including a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds last Saturday against Northern New Mexico, while Nesbit is averaging 4.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Those two players anchor the interior as they have combined for 68 points, 66 rebounds and eight blocked shots.
ABOUT WESTMINSTER
Westminster comes into this week's first two RMAC games sporting a 2-2 overall record and has won two straight games. Those two wins came against Alaska-Fairbanks (99-74) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (54-46). The Griffins, though, haven't played a game in nearly two weeks since that win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Leading the way offensively for the Griffins is senior guard Teuila Nawahine, who is averaging 16.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game and is fourth in the league in scoring. Nawahine is shooting 48.9 percent from the field, 39 percent from the 3-point line, and 75 percent at the free throw line, and leads the league in assists at 4.5 per game.
In addition to Nawahine, junior forward Emily Evans is averaging 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and is shooting 49 percent from the field on the season, while the third double-digit scorer is junior forward Madison Anderson, who is averaging 11.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game and is shooting 55 percent from the field.
As a team, Westminster enters the week averaging 70.0 points per game and is allowing 69.8 points per game. The Griffins are shooting 45 percent from the field, 30 percent from the 3-point line, and 63 percent from the free-throw line. The Griffins, who are third in the league in field goal percentage, have scored over 70 points in two of their four games.
The Griffins are among the league leaders in assists and rebound margin as they are second in assists (16.8), fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (0.9), and are third in rebound margin (+7.0). Westminster is averaging 36.8 rebounds per game, and its opponents are averaging 29.8 boards per contest.
Defensively, Westminster's opponents are shooting 41 percent from the field, 37 percent from the 3-point line, and 70 percent at the free-throw line. The Griffins are also third in the league in steals (11.0) and fourth in turnovers forced per game (19.8). Junior guard Klowie Pike is sixth in the league in steals per game (2.3), and Anderson is 11th in the league in steals per game (2.0.).
Thursday's game will mark the 18th all-time meeting on the hardwood for both teams as the Pack holds a 10-7 edge in the series. The Pack, though, has won five straight games in the series, including sweeping both meetings last season as the Pack won 59-58 at Westminster and collected a 76-42 win in Pueblo.
ABOUT WESTERN COLORADO
Western Colorado, which plays on Thursday at Colorado Christian before traveling to Pueblo to face the Pack, enters the game sporting a 2-2 overall record, with its two wins coming in its season opener against Angelo State (65-49) and Texas A&M-International (68-61). WCU's two losses have come to St. Mary's (Texas), 66-65, and St. Edward's, 68-58.
Leading the way offensively is senior guard Ivey Schmidt, who is averaging 17.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game and is shooting 39 percent from the field, 38 percent from the 3-point line, and is tied for the team lead in assists with nine. Schmidt is second in the RMAC in scoring and fourth in rebounding.
In addition to Schmidt, junior forward Alyssa Eckroth is averaging 13.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game and is shooting 42 percent from the field and 86 percent from the free throw line, while junior guard Jada Mayes is averaging 11.8 points per game and is shooting 46 percent from the field and has made a team-best nine treys and is shooting 38 percent from the 3-point line.
As a team, Western Colorado is one of the top defensive teams in the league as they are third in field goal percentage defense (36.7 percent), fifth in 3-point field goal defense (29.0 percent), and leads the league in defensive rebounds per game (30.0). WCU is allowing 61 points per game and has a +5.0 rebound margin.
Offensively, the Mountaineers are averaging 64 points per game and is fifth in the league in field goal percentage (41.6) and are one of the top three-point shooting teams in the league as they are fourth in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (31.4 percent) and are making 6.8 treys per game, which is fifth-most in the league.
Saturday's game will mark the 82nd all-time meeting on the basketball court, with the Pack holding a decided 49-32 all-time edge in the series. The Pack leads 31-10 in the Pueblo, and they have won four straight games in the series, including tallying a 66-52 come-from-behind win last season in Gunnison, Colo. In that game, the Pack trailed 28-17 just 47 seconds into the third quarter, before outscoring the Mountaineers 49-24 the remainder of the game, including 28-10 in the fourth quarter.
