Swimming Has Strong 2nd Place Showing For Division II's At Pepperdine Invitational

MALIBU, Calif. — The Colorado State University Pueblo swimming program continued to impress early in the 2025–26 campaign, turning in a strong performance at the Rodionoff Invitational hosted by Pepperdine University in Malibu. Competing against a mix of NCAA Division I and Division II programs, the ThunderWolves finished as the second-highest Division II team, tallying 169 points to place fourth overall in the multi-division standings behind The Master's University, Cal Lutheran, and Westmont.

Dominant Efforts in Distance and Relays

Freshman Andy Reyes highlighted the Pack's weekend with a commanding victory in the 1000-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 10:54.21 to lead a 1-2-3 CSU Pueblo sweep in the distance event. Sarah Fransson (11:32.89) and Aleksandra Dutkowiak (11:36.56) followed closely behind to secure key points for the Pack.

The ThunderWolves also impressed in relay action. The quartet of Carla Sanchez Guareno, Olivia Dannhaus, Andy Reyes, and Greta Laborde Lagrave took second place in the 400-yard medley relay (4:03.90), while the team of Greta Laborde Lagrave, Aria Chase, Carla Sanchez Guareno, and Angela Pankte placed third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.19) among Division II competitors.

Individual Highlights

  • Carla Sanchez Guareno claimed first in the 200 backstroke (2:08.49), earning nine team points.

  • Olivia Dannhaus shined in both the 200 IM (2:15.85) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.84), finishing among the top performers in each event.

  • Andy Reyes added another victory in the 200 butterfly (2:15.93), capping a stellar meet for the freshman.

  • Greta Laborde Lagrave and Angela Pankte contributed top-10 efforts in the 100 freestyle and relay events to round out the weekend.

Pack Performance Summary

Against a competitive field that featured Division I powers Pepperdine and Utah Tech, CSU Pueblo's 169-point showing cemented the Pack as one of the top Division II programs in attendance — an encouraging early-season result for Head Coach Susanne Divelbiss and her squad.

Up Next

The ThunderWolves return to action later this month as they head north to compete in the Adams State Duals, continuing to build momentum toward the RMAC slate and their pursuit of NCAA qualifying times.
