Swimming Finishes Second In Dan France Continental Coaches Classic

GUNNISON/ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Swimming team kicked off their 2024-25 season with a second place finish in the Dan France Continental Coaches Classic, hosted by Western Colorado and Adams State.

The ThunderWolves kicked off the season in the women's 200-yard medley relay, finishing in third out of seven teams competiting.

The relay team of Carla Sanchez Guareno (Tarragona, Spain), Olivia Dannhaus (Sheridan, Wyo./Sheridan), Paola C Wu (San Pedro Sula, Honduras), and Aleksandra Dutkowiak (Wroclaw, Poland) had an impressive showing of 1:54.41, finishing just three seconds behind first place.

Andrea Gallardo Perez (Merida, Mexico) had a strong showing in the difficult 1000-yard freestyle, finishing in fifth place with a time of 12:14.81.

Lace Denn (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) led the way for the Pack in the 200-yard freestyle with a strong second place finish and a time of 2:05.45, while Dannhaus led the way for the ThunderWolves in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in fourth, with a time of 26.54.

Aline Gutierrez (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) had an impressive showing in the 200-yard IM in her first collegiate event, finishing in thrid with a time of 2:21.23, while Regan Rodriguez (Bakersfield, Calif./Techachapi) also competed in the 200-yard IM in her first collegiate event, finishing with a time of 2:32.70

C Wu, and Denn both had top-five finishes in the 100-yard butterfly, while Dannhaus, and Margaret Laborde Lagrave (Sacramento, Calif./Saint Francis) both finished in the top 3 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Sanchez-Guareno rounded out the ThunderWolves success on day one with a win in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:02.87.

In the only event the Pack competed in on day two, the ThunderWolves were successful, winning the women's 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Denn, Sanchez Guareno, Dannhaus, and C Wu won the event with a time of 3:51.63.

CSU Pueblo is back in action on Oct. 4-5 at the Intermountain Shootout, hosted by Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo.
