LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball team look to move up in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings as the Pack are back in action to take on Colorado Christian University on the road in Lakewood, Colo. tomorrow at 5 p.m. and on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. on the road in Chadron, Neb. against Chadron State College.
The Pack are coming off a 1-1 weekend, splitting games with Fort Lewis and Adams State. The 73-65 win last Friday against Fort Lewis was huge for
Tommie Johnson's squad as it propelled CSU Pueblo ahead of the SkyHawks for the final spot in the standings for the postseason. The Pack suffered a heartbreaking 61-57 overtime loss to Adams State the following day to keep the RMAC postseason push in a tight race.
CSU Pueblo enters Friday's match-up with a 13-11 overall record and an 8-8 mark in the RMAC. The two games this weekend will give the Pack a chance to put themselves in prime position to make the postseason and jump up in the conference standings. CSU Pueblo sits in the eighth and final spot in the RMAC Postseason standings, half a game ahead of Fort Lewis (8-9 RMAC), and just a game back of Colorado Christian (9-7) for seventh place.
This will be the second time that CSU Pueblo has faced Colorado Christian and Chadron State this season.
ABOUT THE PACK
CSU Pueblo enters the weekend led by their fearless leader, redshirt junior forward
Alisha Little (Aurora, Colo./Northern Colorado), who is one of the most dominant players in all of NCAA Division II. Little is second in the RMAC in scoring at 19.8 points per game. She leads the conference in rebounds at 11.5 per game, and in blocks at 3.4 per game. She is second in the nation in total blocks with 81, and is only one block short of Kim Good's record of most blocks in Colorado Women's Collegiate history (286). Most recently she broke a school record for the most blocks in a single season in the game against Adams State. Little, who earned her fifth RMAC Defensive Player of the Week accolade of this season on Monday, also leads the nation in double-doubles with 17.
The Pack may have found an offensive spark in their last outing with junior guard
Landri Hudson (Aurora, Colo./Wyoming) as she scored 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting against Adams State. Hudson is a very capable scoring option as she has dipped into double-digits ten times this season.
Redshirt junior forward
Autumn Watts (Centennial, Colo./McNeese State) has been on a tear as of late, scoring in double-figures in six out of her last seven games, recording two double-doubles. She joins Little as the other double-digit scorer on the squad.
Junior guard
Tomia Johnson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Florida Gulf Coast) continues to be one of the best two-way guards in the RMAC. Her defensive presence and command of the offense is crucial to the Pack as she is fifth in the conference in assists at 3.6 per game and is eighth in the league in steals at 2.3 per game.
CSU Pueblo continues to rely on their strong defensive presence as they continue to be one of the better defensive units in the RMAC and in the nation. The Pack only allow 64.3 points per game and hold their opponents to just 37 percent shooting from the field.
The Pack continue to rally around the ball as they lead the conference in blocked shots at 5.6 per game and rank fifth nationally in that category. In addition, the Pack accumulate 10 steals per game and pull down an average of 38.2 rebounds per game, which is third best in the RMAC.
CSU Pueblo is led by Head Coach
