GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Swimming team concluded the Intermountain Shootout on the campus of Colorado Mesa University.
The ThunderWolves finished the shootout wineless, but showed promise against strong Division One and Division Two programs.
The Pack started off the event against Big 12 opponent, the University of Utah, falling in the event 151-29.
In the second event of the day, the Pack fell to Colorado Mesa University 174-27.
On the final event on Friday, the Pack took on Brigham Young University (BYU), falling 174-27.
The Pack took the pool on Saturday as well, dropping their first match to Utah 152-30.
In the second match of the day, the ThunderWolves took on Colorado Mesa once again, falling 174-26.
In the third and final match of the Intermountain Shootout, the Pack took on BYU, falling 174-26.
DAY ONE
CSU Pueblo began the meet in the 400-yard medley relay, which was led by
Carla Sanchez Guareno (Tarragona, Spain),
Olivia Dannhaus (Sheridan, Wyo./Sheridan),
Paola C Wu (San Pedro Sula, Honduras), and
Laci Denn (Egg Harbor Township, N.N./Mainland Regional), as the Pack finished in seventh place with a time of 4:07.26.
C Wu and
Aline Gutierrez (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) had good showings in the women's 200-yard IM, as C Wu swam a time of 2:16.17, while Gutierrez swam a time of 2:21.19.
Sanchez Guareno competed in the 100-yard back, finishing the best for the ThunderWolves with a time of 1:01.79.
Andrea Gallardo Perez (Merida, Mexico/Iowa Central) had a solid showing in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 28.54.
Dannhaus led the way for the Pack in the 100-yard breastroke, swimming a time of 1:06.07.
Denn competed in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing the highest for the Pack with a swim of 2:19.86.
Sanchez-Guareno took the pool again in the 100-yard IM, finishing in the top spot for the Pack with a time of 1:04.31.
The competition transitioned to long-distance events, which Gallardo Perez competed very nicely in. In the 1000-yard freestyle, the senior for the Pack swam a time of 12:02.12.
DAY TWO
The Pack took the pool once again on Day Two of the meet, starting off in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Sanchez Guareno, Dannhaus, C Wu, and
Margaret Laborde Lagrave (Sacramento, Calif./Saint Francis) had a good showing of 1:54.24 to take home seventh in the event.
Gallardo Perez competed first for the Pack in individual events, starting in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing 22nd with a time of 5:47.50.
Dannhaus had the best showing for the Pack in the 100-yard freestyle, while
Regan Rodriguez (Bakersfield, Calif./Techachapi) led the way for the Pack in the 50-yard breaststroke.
C Wu led the way for the ThunderWolves in teh 400-yard IM, finishing 16th with a time of 4:50.07, while
Markina Evdokimoff (Joshua Tree, Calif./Yucca Valley) had the best showing for the 50-yard Butterfly.
Sanchez Guareno had the best showing for the ThunderWolves in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 18th place and a time of 1:15.11.
Denn had the best showing in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 1:02.39, while Dannhaus finished the best for the ThunderWolves in the 200-yard breastroke.
The ThunderWolves concluded the meet in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Denn, Dannhaus,
Aleksandra Dutkowiak (Wroclaw, Poland), and C Wu finished seventh with a time of 3:51.02.
