PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball coaching staff has added two late transfers to out its 2023 season roster as it looks to build off back-to-back NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.
Head coach
Austin Albers and his staff have announced the additions of junior outside hitter Brooklyn Casey, who is a transfer from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College and sophomore middle blocker Golden Finch, who is a transfer from NCAA Division I California State University Bakersfield.
Casey comes to CSU Pueblo after playing the past two seasons at Scottsdale Community College in Scottsdale, Ariz. She graduated from Liberty High School in Peoria, Ariz., and was a three year letter winner, team captain and MVP for the Lions. During her senior season, she was named to a First-Team Arizona 6A All-District selection and a 6A First-Team All-Desert Valley Region honoree. Casey graduated from Liberty after four consecutive years on the Academic Honor Roll in May 2020 and began her collegiate career at NCAA Division II Chaminade University in Hawai'i. The 6-foot lefty pin attacker saw limited time during the COVID-19 season of 2020 and transferred back home to attend Scottsdale CC.
Once at Scottsdale, Casey made an immediate impact for the Fighting Artichokes tallying 570 kills, 69 service aces and averaging 3.6 digs per set over her two seasons. She helped lead SCC to back-to-back NJCAA National Tournament appearances and a National Championship Runner-Up finish in 2022. She earned ACCAC All-Conference Honorable Mention and Region I All-Region honors as a freshman in 2021. As a sophomore this past season, Casey led her team to a 26-2 record and was named an NJCAA D-II First-Team All-American for her efforts. Along the way she also collected four consecutive ACCAC Player of the Week honors and was named both a First-Team All-ACCAC and All-Region selection.
"We're excited to add Brooklyn to our volleyball roster. Her resume speaks for itself and we love her competitive spirit and leadership. As a young team, we were in need of some high level experience and Brooklyn's energy and communication will add a lot to our roster," Albers said about Casey. "She's been battle tested and proven herself a winner over the last couple seasons and will bring a winning mentality along with her to CSU Pueblo. As a player she has a solid skillset all the way through but what really impressed us most about her was her ball control and ability to serve receive it at a high level. We're excited to see her get into Massari Arena and compete!"
Finch comes to the Pack volleyball program after being a member of the volleyball at Cal State Bakersfield the past two seasons. Originally from Albuquerque, N.M., Finch graduated from Sandia High School and played club volleyball at ARVC. She was past of Sandia's 2017 State Championship team as a freshman and guided the Matadors to a State Runner-up finish her sophomore year in 2018. As a junior in 2019, Finch broke the New Mexico 5A single season record for blocks with 121 en route to earning First-Team All-District, Second-Team All-Metro and Second-Team All-State honors. Her senior season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic after leading the Matadors to three consecutive District Championships in her time at the net.
A multisport standout for the Matadors, Golden's success was not limited only to the volleyball court. She was also part of the basketball and track & field teams where she helped lead both programs to District Championships in 2018 and was a long and triple jumper for her track team that finished as 5A State Championship Runner-Up. After high school, Finch took her talents west to CSU Bakersfield where she redshirted in 2021 and saw limited playing time in 2022. During her time with the Roadrunners, she earned All-Academic Big West honors and was named to the Dean's List three times.
"Golden is a player that we were interested in coming out of high school, but she had already made her Division I commitment at that time. So when we saw her name hit the transfer portal, we knew we wanted to reach out and see if she'd liked to make a move closer to home," said Albers about Finch. "She still has a lot of time to develop but already has a presence about her on the floor. She's super bouncy, athletic and has the talent to be an impactful player for us. We want to be dynamic and offensively dangerous out of the middle and is a player that will fly around and demand the ball from our setters. We look forward to seeing what she can do in the RMAC!"
