Women's Lacrosse Continues Homestand Friday, Hosts Fort Lewis at Noon

PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse will continue its season-long five-game homestand here Friday, April 7 as the ThunderWolves host Fort Lewis for a 12 p.m. Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game at the Art and Lorraine Gonzales Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.

Friday's game will mark the third of five straight games at home for the Pack as they will conclude the homestand next weekend with games against Westminster on April 14 and Colorado Mesa on April 16. The Westminster game will begin at 4 p.m., with the Mesa game slated for a 3 p.m. start.

CSU Pueblo, who is coached by interim first year coach Taylor Christensen, comes into Friday's game with Fort Lewis sporting a 1-7 overall record and an 0-4 mark in the RMAC after suffering losses at home last weekend to then No. 3 ranked Regis (19-3) and UCCS (23-12). Overall, the Pack have lost three straight games since picking up its lone win of the 2023 season on March 21 at Erskine College. The Pack won that game over Erskine, 21-5.

Offensively, the Pack have scored 90 goals in eight games and are averaging 11.3 goals per game as freshman midfielder Elise Magee (Port Moody, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best Secondary) leads the way with 17 goals and has added three assists for 20 points. Freshman midfielder Katie Broom (Houston, Texas/Spring), senior midfielder Sedona Sargent (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) and senior midfielder Ciara Lessick (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) have each scored 14 goals, while Broom leads the team in both assists (14) and points (28). Sargent is second in points with 21 as she has had seven assists and Lessick has 18 points as she had added four assists.

On the season, six Pack players have tallied double-digit goals on the year as along with Magee, Broom, Sargent and Lessick, junior midfielder Baylee Mee (Reno, Nev./Galena) and sophomore attacker Parker Delp (Kent Island, Md./Kent Island) have scored 12 and 11 goals respectively.

In addition to Broom's team-leading 14 assists, Sargent has tallied seven assists and Mee has five assists.

Sargent leads the team in shots in 39, while Broom and Lessick are next on the list with 34 and 31 shots respectively. Magee, though, leads the team in shooting percentage at 58.6 percent and had an 86.2 percentage on shots on goal as 25 of her 29 shots have been on goal this year.

Lessick, Broom and Mee have combined for 97 of the team's 121 draw controls as Lessick leads the way with 41 and is second in the league in draw controls per game at 5.12. Broom has had 30 draw controls and is averaging 3.8 per game, which is sixth-best in the league and Mee has had 26 draw controls and is averaging 3.3 per game.

Mee leads the team in ground balls with 21, while Lessick and Broom have had 13 and 12 ground balls each.

Defensively, the Pack are allowing 17.1 goals per game and have caused 60 turnovers, while their opponents have had 127 turnovers in eight games. Mee leads the way with 12 caused turnovers and is averaging 1.33 per game, which is sixth-best in the RMAC. CSU Pueblo has allowed double-digit goals in seven of its eight games and have allowed 20 or more goals three times.

In goal, sophomore Naomi Price-Burton (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) has played every minute this season in net as has recorded 60 saves and has allowed 137 goals as she has faced 263 shots. Her 7.5 saves per game are third-best in the RMAC, while her 17.12 goals-against-average is fifth in the RMAC.

ABOUT FORT LEWIS
Fort Lewis comes into Friday's game with CSU Pueblo sporting a 0-7 overall record and a 0-4 mark in the RMAC. The Skyhawks have lost eight straight games dating to the last season as FLC's last win came in its regular season finale at home last season against the Pack. FLC defeated the Pack in that game, 15-14.

The Skyhawks latest loss came this past Sunday at home against Regis as the Rangers picked up an 18-2 win. In addition to Regis, Fort Lewis' other losses in league play have come against Colorado Mesa (19-7), Westminster (19-11) and UCCS (16-10).

As a team, FLC has scored 50 goals in seven games and is averaging 8.3 goals per game with junior attacker Haley Dostie leading the way with 23 goals, which is fourth-most in the league. She has scored nearly half of her team's goals on the year. Junior midfielder Ellie Martinez is second on the team with nine goals.

The Skyhawks have only recorded 14 assists on their 50 goals this season with redshirt freshman Valerie Garcia leading the way with three assists.

Dostie and Martinez are the team's top two shot takers as they have combined to take 65 shots on the year with Dostie having taken 42 and is averaging 6.0 shots per game and Martinez has taken 23 shots.

Senior midfielder Autumn Rymerson leads the team in draw controls with 20, while freshman midfielder Sydney Tannaci has had 10 draw controls.

Seven FLC players have recorded 10 or more ground balls on the year with senior goalie Averi Basso leading the way with 18 ground balls, while Dostie and senior midfielder Makena Carter have each had 13 ground balls.

Defensively, the Skyhawks have caused 51 turnovers with freshman defender Samantha Rodgers leading the way with eight, while Dostie has caused six turnovers.

Basso controls the goal for the Skyhawks as she has played all but 12 minutes this season in goal. On the year, she has recorded 70 saves and has allowed 104 goals. Her 70 saves are second-best in the league, while her 10.0 saves per game are also second-best in the RMAC.

The Skyhawks are coached by Ashley Travis, who is in her fourth season at FLC's coach. She has posted a 12-26 record as FLC's coach, including a 9-16 mark in RMAC play. She has led the program to back-to-back RMAC Tournament appearances.

Friday's game will mark the 14th all-time meeting between the two schools with Fort Lewis holding a commanding 11-2 lead in the series. The Skyhawks have won four straight games in the series since the Pack earned a forfeit win during the 2019 season. Fort Lewis leads 6-0 at home and is 5-2 in the series in Pueblo. The Skyhawks are also 7-1 in the series in RMAC play.
