Box Score 2 MESA, Ariz. (March 18, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's tennis team lost a pair of nonconference road matches against Mesa Community College and Arizona Christian on Saturday in Mesa, Arizona.
In the first match of the day against the Thunderbirds from Mesa CC, the ThunderWolves lost 5-2 and received wins at No. 3 singles by
Sonrisa Bustamante (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) who beat her opponent in straight sets (6-2, 6-1)Â and at No. 5 singles from
Avery Soto (So., Pueblo, Colo.) who finished off her opponent also in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).
The Pack picked up the win at No. 2 doubles with the duo of Bustamante and
Alyssa Wells (R-Jr., Converse, Tex.) taking home the 8-6 win.
At No. 4 singles, Wells took her match to a tiebreak and ultimately fell 10-7.
During the afternoon match against Arizona Christian, Soto was again victorious against ACU's Halle Stork, scoring a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win for the Pack.
The Bustamante/Wells combo secured a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 1 singles,
Olivia Ivankoe (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) battled in her match and won three games in the first set before falling 6-3, 6-1.
CSU Pueblo will stay in Arizona and face-off against Eastern Arizona College on Monday starting at 9 a.m. in Thatcher, Ariz.
