PUEBLO, Colo. (January 25, 2018) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Swimming & Diving honored its biggest senior class ever, but could send them off with a win as the Pack fell to Colorado School of Mines 148-83 Friday at the Sam Jones Aquatic Center.
The ThunderWolves won four individual events.
Madison Ortega (Fr., Pueblo West, Colo.) won bot the one meter and three meter diving events. She scored a career-best 172.65 points in the three-meter dive. Ortega also scored 140.05 in the one- meter dive to take first place.
Julia Whitfield (Fr., Wichita, Kan.) took first in the 50 Free. Her time of 25.33 beat the field by .38 seconds. The win was Whitfield's third home win of the season.
Fellow freshman,
Natalie Rotondo (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) touched the wall first in the 100 fly. Rotondo's time of 1:00.44 topped the field by .47 seconds. She now has 13 wins in 2019 alone.
Jade Irick (Sr., Idaho Falls, Idaho) took second in both diving events. Irick scored a career-best 163.96 points in the three meter. She also scored 131.05 in the one meter. Irick finished third in the 100 back (1:05.07).
Arianna Rohde (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska) placed second in the 100 Back (1:03.28). Rohde teamed up with fellow senior
Leila Zijadic, Rotondo, and Whitfield to take second in the 400 medley relay (4:15.10).
Phoebe Pontious (Jr., Caledonia, Mich.) took second in the 100 Free (55.47). Pontious also posted the Pack's best finish in the 100 Breast (1:16.90).
April McDonough (Sr., Frisco, Texas) celebrated her final home meet with a third place finish in the 1000 Free (11:27.10). McDonough also placed fourth in the 200 IM (2:32.74).
The Pack performed well but could not keep up with the Orediggers. Mines set five pool records in the win.
The ThunderWolves finish the season 3-4 in duals. They wrapped up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition 2-2.
CSU-Pueblo will now rest up for the RMAC Championships. The RMAC Championships will be held in Lewisville, Texas Feb.13 –Feb. 17.
