ThunderWolves men's and women's tennis defeat CCU 8-1 in RMAC opener

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 9, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's tennis teams both won by the score of 8-1 against Colorado Christian University in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener Friday at Pueblo City Park.

The men came out and won all three doubles matches 8-3. The No. 1 group of Thomas Pudney (Fr., Southend, United Kingdom) and David Mould (Sr., Upminster Essex, United Kingdom) went 2-0 on the day, as Pudney won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Mould captured a three-set victory at No. 3 singles. After losing the first set 6-7 (7-10), the senior won 6-4, then 10-5 in the third set tiebreak. 

The No. 2 doubles pair of Rafael Abreu (So., San Paulo, Brazil) and Dante Alcala (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) also went 2-0. Abreu won 6-0, then needed the tiebreak to secure the victory at No. 5 by winning 7-6 (10-5). Alcala won on matching scores in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to be victorious at No. 6 singles. 

The No. 3 doubles grouping of Cade Boedeker (Fr., North Richland Hills, Texas) and Steven Alcala (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) made sure the Pack would take a 3-0 lead into singles play. 

At No. 2 singles, James Ryan (Jr., London, England) got it done in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-2. 

The women also swept the three doubles matches to take the 3-0 lead into singles. 

The No. 1 pair of Samantha Cachutt (Sr., Caracus, Venezuela) and Acacia Dettman (Perris, Calif.) needed the tiebreak to win 9-8 (4). Dettman was up 6-1, 5-1 at No. 3 singles before her opponent needed to default to give the Pack a win. Cachutt battled at No. 5 singles and won in the third set tiebreak 6-4, 5-7, 10-8. 

At No. 2 doubles, Kali Hamilton (Fr., Grapevine, Texas) and Nia Matthews (Jr., Houston, Texas) won 8-3 and then went on to both win at singles. Hamilton was a winner at No. 1 singles by matching 6-4, 6-4 set scores. Matthews didn't drop a point at No. 2 singles with a clean 6-0, 6-0 victory. 

Kristin Jensen (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Sarah Megilligan (So., Pueblo West, Colo.) came together at No. 3 doubles to win 8-1. Jensen rolled at No. 6 singles to win 6-0, 6-1. 

The ThunderWolves continue their home weekend Saturday against Colorado College at 10 a.m. at Pueblo City Park.
