Pack tennis teams complete at MSU Texas Invite

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 7, 2020) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's tennis teams competed at the MSU Texas Invite March 6-7 in Wichita Falls, Texas, which was hosted by Midwestern State University. 

Both teams finished the weekend 0-3 and lost all three matches 0-7. The two squads also each secured a win at No. 1 doubles in their Saturday matches against Cameron University. 

The women lost to Angelo State University Friday morning and to host MSU Texas Friday afternoon. The most points scored in a set against ASU was two points. At No. 1 singles against the Mustangs, junior Kali Hamilton (Grapevine, Texas) totaled six set points in her 6-2, 6-4 loss. At No. 1 doubles against Cameron, Hamilton and Tilly Blasdale (Fr., Dover, UK) came together for a 6-3 victory. Hamilton was again the top player for the Pack in her loss at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1. 

The men fell to Southwest Baptist University Friday morning and lost to MSU Texas Friday afternoon. In the first loss, the No. 2 doubles pair of seniors Daniel Garcia (Riverside, Calif.) and Rafael Abreu (Piedade, Brasil) pushed their opponent to extra tennis, but loss the set 7-6, with a 10-7 score in the tiebreaker. Sophomore Richard Garcia (Bolton, UK) was the closest to victory in singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 loss at No. 3. 

Against the Mustangs, the same No. 2 doubles team lost again in the tiebreaker, this time it was 10-3. Abreu lost 6-3, 7-6 (5) at No. 5 singles and sophomore Edward Cooper (Wolverhampton, UK) fell 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. 

Finally, on Saturday the No. 1 doubles pair of R. Garcia and Cooper won 6-1. D. Garcia lost at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-4. 

Both teams return home March 20 for a match against Seward County CC beginning at 3 p.m. at Pueblo City Park.
