Pack Tennis teams travel to MSU Texas Invite

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 5, 2020) - Both the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's tennis teams hit the road for the MSU Texas Invite, March 6-7, hosted by Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. 

The men (0-5) will play Southwest Baptist University Friday at 8 a.m. and then battle the host Mustangs at 2 p.m. Saturday, the weekend concludes with Cameron University at 8 a.m. All times are listed as Mountain. 

The women (0-8) will meet up with Angelo State University Friday at 8 a.m. before tangling with MSU Texas at 2 p.m. The ThunderWolves will then see Cameron at 8 a.m. Saturday to conclude the weekend. All times are listed as Mountain.

LAST TIME OUT - MEN

The CSU-Pueblo men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss Saturday against NCAA Division I Montana State University in the spring season opener at Pueblo City Park.

The ThunderWolves earned the doubles point by winning both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches. At No. 1, sophomores Edward Cooper (Wolverhampton, United Kingdom) and Richard Garcia (Bolton, United Kingdom) combined for a 6-4 victory. At the No. 2 spot, seniors Daniel Garcia (Riverside, Calif.) and Rafael Abreu (Piedade, Brazil) went to work and picked up a 6-4 win.

Unfortunately, the Pack couldn't gain a victory in singles play. Cooper won his first set 6-3 at No. 2 singles, but dropped the second set 6-3. He lost in the third set tiebreaker by the score of 10-4.

LAST TIME OUT - WOMEN

The CSU-Pueblo women's tennis team suffered a pair of losses over the weekend, but the No. 1 doubles team grabbed a win Sunday.

Friday, the ThunderWolves lost on the road to NCAA Division I foe Air Force Academy by the score of 7-0. In doubles play, Sarah Megilligan (Sr., Pueblo West, Colo.) and Roma Cordova (Fr., Belen, N.M.) paired up at the No. 3 position to get closest to a win, as they lost 6-4.

At No. 2 singles, Kali Hamilton (Jr., Grapevine, Texas) pushed her opponent in both sets, but fell 6-3 and 7-5.

Sunday, the Pack lost 7-0 to Texas A&M University-Kingsville in the spring home opener. The No. 1 doubles pair of Hamilton and Tilly Blasdale (Dover, United Kingdom) claimed a victory. They needed extra tennis to get the win, as they won 7-6 with a 10-8 score in the tiebreaker. Megilligan lost 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 singles spot to claim the most points won by a member of the ThunderWolves.

 NEXT UP

Both Pack squads return home March 20 to battle Seward County CC at 3 p.m. at Pueblo City Park. On March 21 men welcome Division I Creighton University at 10 a.m. before the teams host Metropolitan State University of Denver at 2 p.m.
