Pack Tennis teams record victories against Doane

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 13, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's tennis teams posted victories Tuesday against Doane University in nonconference matches at Pueblo City Park. The men posted a 9-0 sweep, while the women won 8-1 after defaulting a point to the visiting Tigers. 

For the men, the No. 1 doubles pair of Thomas Pudney (Fr., Southend, United Kingdom) and Deniz recorded a 8-3 victory, then Pudney won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2. Deniz got it done at No. 2 singles and allowed just one point in a 6-0, 6-1 victory. 

The No. 2 doubles grouping of Cade Boedeker (Fr., North Richland Hills, Texas) and junior James Ryan (London, England) recorded an 8-6 win, then followed that with Ryan earning a clean 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. Boedeker played at No. 4 singles and won 6-4, 6-0.

Finally, the the No. 3 doubles pair of Rafael Abreu (So., San Paulo, Brazil) and Dante Alcala (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) recorded an 8-2 win. Alcala won his singles (No. 6) match 6-1, 6-0.  

Steven Alcala (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) won the final singles bout at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-2 result. 

The women not only swept the three doubles matches, but allowed just four points to take the 3-0 lead into singles. 

The No. 1 pair of Samantha Cachutt (Sr., Caracus, Venezuela) and Acacia Dettman (Perris, Calif.) won 8-4. The two then combined to allow just one point in singles, as Dettman won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Cachutt posted a clean 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. 

At No. 2 doubles, Kali Hamilton (Fr., Grapevine, Texas) and Nia Matthews (Jr., Houston, Texas) won 8-0, then Matthews recorded a 6-0, 6-2 result at No. 1 singles.

Kristin Jensen (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Sarah Megilligan (So., Pueblo West, Colo.) came together at No. 3 doubles to win 8-0. Jensen rolled at No. 5 singles to win 6-0, 6-0 and Megilligan gathered the W with 6-1, 6-2 set scores at No. 3.

The Pack left the sixth singles spot open to rest some players for tomorrow's nonconference meeting with Texas A&M-Commerce, which will warp a stretch of five matches in six days. The contest at Pueblo City Park is set to begin at 3 p.m. 

The ThunderWolves men break until March 23-24. CSU-Pueblo hosts Midwestern State University March 23 at 9 a.m. at Pueblo City Park, then hosts Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe Colorado Mesa University at 10 a.m. to close the home portion of the schedule.
