Pack men and women gather victories against Colorado College

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 10, 2018) - Both the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's tennis teams defeated Colorado College in a nonconference meeting Saturday at Pueblo City Park. The women won 6-3, while the men pulled off a 5-4 victory.

The women had four players record two wins on the day. 

Kali Hamilton (Fr., Grapevine, Texas) and Nia Matthews (Jr., Houston, Texas) came together and won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, then gathered singles wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Hamilton was a winner at No. 1 by 6-2 and 6-3 set scores. After not allowing a point Friday, Matthews was dominate again in a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2. 

At No. 3 doubles, Kristin Jensen (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Sarah Megilligan (So., Pueblo West, Colo.) won 8-3. At No. 4 singles, Megilligan won 6-0 in the first set, lost the second set 4-6, but won the third set tiebreak 10-6. Jensen also used the third set tiebreak to win at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5. 

The men were forced to default two points due to an injury to David Mould (Sr., Upminster Essex, United Kingdom) during No. 1 doubles play. 

The No. 2 doubles pair of Rafael Abreu (So., San Paulo, Brazil) and Dante Alcala (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) came through and won 8-5, then both players won in straight sets in singles play. Abreu won 6-1, then used the tiebreak to secure the victory at No. 3 by winning 7-6 (10-5). Moving up to No. 4 singles, Alcala won 7-5, 6-0.

The No. 3 doubles grouping of Cade Boedeker (Fr., North Richland Hills, Texas) and Steven Alcala (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) won 8-4 to make sure the Pack were up 2-1 headed to singles play. 

At No. 5 singles, James Ryan (Jr., London, England) won his second match of the weekend, as he posted 6-3, 6-2 set scores. 

The ThunderWolves conclude their home weekend Sunday against MSU Denver in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches beginning at 10 a.m. at Pueblo City Park.
