PUEBLO, Colo. (December 7, 2018) – For the first time in over 10 months, Colorado State University-Pueblo Swimming & Diving will compete in front of their home fans when they host Colorado College Saturday Dec. 8 at 12 p.m. in the Sam Jones Aquatic Center, located inside Massari Arena.
The ThunderWolves have not competed at home since Jan. 27 when they fell to University of Northern Colorado. CSU-Pueblo will host three total meets in 2018-19.
This weekend's meet will be the home debuts of freshmen
Madison Ortega (Pueblo West, Colo.)
Natalie Rotondo (Aurora, Colo.),and
Julia Whitfield (Wichita, Kan.). Ortega has four wins in her early career and has already earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Diver of the Week honors.
Rotondo set four school records at the A3 Performance Invite. She shattered the school record in the 200 back twice, establishing a new school record of 2:06.00. One day earlier, Rotondo set a school record in the 100 fly with a time of 57.61.
Whitfield eclipsed the Pack's school record in the 100 free with a time of 53.54 at the A3 Performance Invite. Fellow freshmen
Alexis Bower (Riverside, Calif.),
Emma Chvatal (Carterville, Ill.), and
Alyssa Grunloh (Round Rock, Texas) will all also be competing for the first time at home Saturday.
Phoebe Pontious (Jr., Caledonia, Mich.) started her season with four wins in her first two meets. Pontious continues to hold the school record in the 50 free.
April McDonough (Sr., Frisco, Texas) has partnered with Pontious, Rotondo, and Whitfield to set school records in the 200 (1:38.34), 400 (3:39.56), and 800 free (8:04.66) relays. All three of these records came at the A3 Performance Invite.
In addition to McDonough, six more Pack seniors will look to make more memories at the Sam Jones Aquatic Center.
Jade Irick (Idaho Falls, Idaho) has done it all for the Pack and is now bolstering the Pack's diving corps.
Arianna Rohde (Anchorage, Alaska) still holds school records in the 200 fly (2:09.30) and the 100 Back (59.19).
Leila Zijadic (North Vancouver, B.C.) has been the Pack's top breaststroker this season.
Deanna Harrison (Orlando, Fla.),
Hannah Plummer (Arvada, Colo.),
Tracey Williams (Pueblo, Colo.) will all try to earn points in the distance events.
