GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (November 17, 2018) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Swimming & Diving shattered four more school records Sunday in the final session of the A3 Performance Invitational at the El Pomar Natatorium.
The Pack finished fifth overall at the A3 Performance Invite with 339 points. In total 10 school records were set over the three-day event.
The ThunderWolves shattered their school record in the 400 free relay by almost four seconds.
Phoebe Pontious, April McDonough, Natalie Rotondo, and
Julia Whitfield finished in a time of 3:39.56. This mark was almost four seconds faster than the previous school record. The Pack scored a fourth place finish and 30 points with this effort.
Just like she did one day earlier, Rotondo (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) broke two school records Sunday. Rotondo eclipsed the 200 backstroke record with a time of 2:07.58 in the prelims. She swam her way to a record-breaking time of 2:06.00 in the finals.
Rotondo's time in the finals set the Pack's 200 back record almost three seconds faster than it was at the start of the day. Rotondo placed fifth in the event and scored 14 points for the ThunderWolves.
Whitfield (Fr., Wichita, Kan.) broke the Pack's record in the 100 free. She sprinted to a time of 53.54 that was .14 than the school record. Whitfield placed 11th.
Pontious (Jr., Caledonia, Mich.) matched her previous school record of 53.68 in the prelims of the 100 free to earn her way into the A final. She posted a time of 53.75 in the finals to take sixth place and 13 points.
Arianna Rohde (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska) touched the wall in a time of 2:19.29 in the 200 butterfly. Her time in the A final to secured eighth place and 11 points for the Pack.
Bristyn Croswhite (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) matched Rohde with a 2:19.29. Her time earned her 10th place overall and was the second fastest in the B final. Croswhite collected seven points for her efforts.
McDonough (Sr., Frisco, Texas) placed 10th in the 1650 free. McDonough's time of 19:07.84 earned seven points for the Pack.
Leila Zijadic (Sr., North Vancouver, B.C.) led the Pack with a 15th place finish in the 200 breaststroke. Zijadic recorded a time of 2:36.22 to bring two points to the Pack.
CSU-Pueblo will make its home debut Saturday Dec. 8 when the ThunderWolves host Colorado College. The dual meet will start at 12 p.m. in the Sam Jones Aquatic Center.
