Box Score LUBBOCK, Texas (Nov. 10, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's basketball team won the final three quarters in a nonconference contest at No. 10 Lubbock Christian University Saturday, but suffered a 78-74 loss in the final game of the TAJ Hospitality Classic.
The ThunderWolves (1-1) won the final 30 minutes by the score of 63-59, but a short lull in the first had the Pack down 19-11 after the 10 minutes. The Pack scored the first bucket of that first quarter and stayed within one possession for most of the frame, but the Lady Chaps would dominate the final 3:50 and move the score from 9-7 to 19-11.
CSU-Pueblo would get within three on three occasions in the second quarter, but would trail by six, 42-36, at the half. The deficit was 11 in the third before settling at seven, 60-53 at the end of the third.
The ThunderWolves came out fighting in the fourth and trailed by just two at 67-65 with 6:16 left in regulation. LCU responded and posted a 9-1 run during the next three minutes of play to open a 10-point lead, 76-66. The Pack would only allow two more points the rest of the way, but couldn't complete the comeback.
The ThunderWolves finished the contest outshooting the top-ranked team 46 percent to 42 percent, but the Lady Chaps knocked down 10 3-pointers to the Pack's seven. LCU was 16-for-20 (80%) from the line, while CSU-Pueblo finished 11-for-18 (61%). The ThunderWolves won the paint 34-30.
Feshman JaNaiya Davis (G, Hewitt, Texas) led the Pack with 21 points on 9-for-16 (56.3%) shooting from the field. She hit two 3-pointers and added a team-high five assists with two rebounds. Senior Lauren Heyn (F, Penryn, Calif.) contributed 15 points with five rebounds. She was 7-for-8 (87.5%) from the charity stripe.
Off the bench, junior Naomi Torgerson (G, Anoka, Minn.) hit three 3-pointers and finished the 14 points and seven rebounds in 32 minutes of play. Junior Khiya Adams (G/F, Falcon, Colo.) scored 11 points and added six rebounds. One night after dropping 25 points, sophomore Sydni Williams (F/C, Little Rock, Ark.) was held to four points, but was the team's top rebounder with eight.
Next up the ThunderWolves begin the home season Nov. 16-17 when they host University of Montana Western both evenings at 5 p.m. in the 35th Annual Al Kaly Shrine Classic at Massari Arena.
