Pontious wins twice against Aggies, 200 free relay sets top four time

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (October 20, 2018) - Facing D-I competition, Colorado State University-Pueblo Swimming & Diving fell to New Mexico State University 143-76 at the NMSU Swimming & Diving Complex.

Phoebe Pontious (Jr., Caledonia, Mich.) earned two individual wins. She flew to first place in the 50 free with a time of 25.18., beating the field by just .03 seconds.

Pontious returned later to edge the field in the 100 free. She finished first with a time of 55.16, just .08 seconds faster than second place. Pontious now has three wins in four races this season.

Pontious also helped the Pack to first place in the 200 free relay. The team of Pontious, April McDonough (Sr., Frisco, Texas), Natalie Rotondo (Fr., Aurora, Colo.), and Julia Whitfield (Fr., Wichita, Kan.) posted a time of 1:41.82. This time ranks as the fourth fastest 100 free relay time in school history.

Leila Zijadic (Sr., North Vancouver, B.C.) led the Pack to a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 breaststroke. Zijadic earned nine points with a time of 2:42.82. Kate Miller (So., Draper, Utah) took second in the event (2:44.57).  Shion Ienaga (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) completed the Pack's sweep of the medal spots with a mark of 2:59.39. 

Madison Ortega (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) won the three meter diving. Ortega scored 115.50 points. Ortega placed sixth in the one-meter diving event.

Competing in her first diving event, Jade Irick (So., Idaho Falls, Idaho) placed fifth in the one meter dive. Irick also earned the Pack's top finish in the 200 back with a time of 2:24.33, taking fifth place. 

Rotondo placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.59. She also took fifth in the 100 fly (1:01.06

The Pack will head to the Hendrix Relays Nov.2. They will also compete in the Hendrix Classic Nov. 3.
