COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 21, 2017) – Competing in three dual meets simultaneously, Colorado State University-Pueblo ended up on the wrong of all three meets at the USAFA Duals at the Cadet Natatorium Saturday.
Air Force Academy defeated the Pack 185-50. CSU-Pueblo fell to Rocky Mountain Athletic foe, Colorado School of Mines 150-66. Colorado Mesa University beat the ThunderWolves 201-37.
The Pack's best performance came in the first event of the day, the 200 medley relay. CSU-Pueblo swam the fourth fastest time in program history in the 200 medley relay. Jade Irick (Jr., Idaho Falls, Idaho), Kate Miller (Fr., Draper, Utah), Arianna Rohde (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska) ,and Phoebe Pontious (So., Caledonia, Mich.) reached the wall in a time 1:53.52 to finish in fifth place.
Fifth place would be the Pack's best finish of the day. They would earn fifth place two more times. Pontious placed fifth in the 100 free with a time of 55.74. Rohde took fifth in the 100 back, touching the wall at 1:01.59.
Pontious also claimed sixth place in the 50 free. She sprinted to a mark of 25.31. Rohde placed ninth in the 200 IM (2:20.38).
Freshman Sarah Fowler (Guymon, Okla.) was the only other Pack swimmer to place in the top-10 in two events. Fowler finished eighth in the 500 free (5:52.99) and ninth in the 200 free (2:09.26).
The Pack will seek its first win of the season when CSU-Pueblo hosts Adams State Friday, Nov. 3. This RMAC dual will be held at the Sam Jones Aquatic Center in Massari Arena, beginning at 5 p.m.
