Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. (May 8, 2016) — In their final regular season game of 2016, Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball dominated Adams State University in an 18-3 win.
CSU-Pueblo picked up where it left off the day before as the Pack scored 42 runs in the final two games of this series. This matched their highest two-game total since May 5, 2015 when they scored 42 runs in a doubleheader against the Grizzlies.
The Pack finished the regular season with a 26-17 record and a 19-12 mark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. Adams State ended their regular season with a 22-26 (18-17 RMAC). Both CSU-Pueblo and Adams State will now advance to the RMAC Baseball Tournament May 12-14.
Taylor Snyder (Jr., Elk Ridge, Utah) continued his hot hitting. Snyder smacked four hits in four trips, including three doubles. The Pack's shortstop scored four times in the game.
Senior Jordan Godman (Las Vegas, Nev.) went 3-for-5 to push his RMAC leading batting average to .477. Godman hit his sixth home run of the season and drove in four runs. He entered the weekend as the nation's third leading hitter.
First Baseman Dominick Bregar (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) drove in three more runs. He now ranks second in the RMAC with 43 RBIs. Bregar finished 2-for-3 with two walks. He also scored three times.
Brandon Castaneda (Jr., Azusa, Calif.) wrapped his impressive weekend series with a pair of hits in three trips. Castaneda finished the three-game set 8-for-14 (.571) with seven RBIs and six runs scored, two of which came in Sunday's series finale. He also stole home, for his third swipe of the season.
Freshman Gilbert Sauceda (Indio, Calif.) plated three more runs. He finished 1-for-2 on the day. He ended the series with a .538 average (7-for-13) and six RBIS. Sauceda also raised his average to .365 in his first regular season with the Pack.
Catcher, Beau Cebulski (Sr., Las Animas, Colo.) had three hits in four trips in his final regular season game. Cebulski plated two runs and scored once.
Senior, Manny Menocal (Las Vegas, Nev.) wound up 2-for-5 on the day. Menocal collected two RBIS and scored twice.
The ThunderWolves jumped on the Grizzlies in the first inning. Menocal singled home Snyder. Sauceda slugged a single that brought in both Bregar and Menocal.
With Castaneda on third, Sauceda stole second. With Sauceda on his way to second, Castaneda broke for the plate. Castaneda stole home safely to give the Pack a 4-0 lead. It was the second time this season, the Pack swiped home.
The Pack added four more runs in the second. Francis Griffin (Sr., Oakland, Calif.) led off the inning with a triple. Godman drove in Griffin with a single. Snyder followed with a double to bring home Godman.
Bregar bashed his second home run in as many days. His two-run shot made it an 8-0 lead for CSU-Pueblo. This dinger was Bregar's fifth of the season.
An inning later, the Pack extended its lead to 13-0. In the third, Godman clobbered a three-run homer. Cebulski and Griffin came around on Godman's sixth long ball of 2016.
Although the Grizzlies scored twice in the third, they could not tame the Pack's offense. CSU-Pueblo tacked on five more runs in the fourth to jump out to an 18-2 lead.
Three more doubles from Castaneda Cebulski and Oliver Jackson (Jr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) allowed the Pack to post its second highest run total of the season. The Pack out-hit the Grizzlies 22-5 as they prevailed 18-3.
The 16-run cushion proved to be more than enough for Kyle Peeler (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.). Peeler improved his record to 4-2 on the season. He struck out two batters and forced two double plays in five innings of work.
The Pack will now advance to the RMAC Tournament in Grand Junction, Colo. CSU-Pueblo will play Colorado Mines Thursday in round one of the double elimination tournament. The time of the Pack's game Thursday will be announced on GoThunderWolves.com.
