Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. (May 7, 2016) — Colorado State University-Pueblo busted out of its slump in a big way as the Pack scored 24 runs to clinch its second consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Plains Division Championship. The ThunderWolves knocked off Adams State University 24-13 Saturday to claim the No.2 seed for the upcoming RMAC Tournament.
Not only did the Pack snap a season-long four game losing streak, they also produced their highest run total since May 4, 2013 when they scored 25 runs against these same Grizzlies.
CSU-Pueblo clinched back-to-back division titles and their third division title in the last four years. The Pack now owns a 25-17 record with an 18-12 record in RMAC games. Adams State slipped to 22-25 (18-16 RMAC).
The Pack knocked 28 hits. Eight of the nine CSU-Pueblo batters had more than one base knock. All nine starters reached base.
Senior Dominick Bregar (Pueblo, Colo.) produced a career-high six RBIs. Bregar went 3-for-7 with a home run and his RMAC leading 21st double. He also scored twice to boost the Pack's offensive attack. Bregar's home run was his fourth of the season.
Shortstop Taylor Snyder (Jr., Elk Ridge, Utah) bashed his team-leading 11th home run of the season. Snyder finished the day 3-for-5 with a pair of walks. He drove in five runs and scored four times.
Oliver Jackson (Jr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) had five hits in six trips. Jackson also scored four times. He drove in two runs.
Senior Manny Menocal (Las Vegas, Nev.) belted a trio of doubles as he finished the day 4-for-6. Menocal scored three times and drove in two. His average has jumped 45 points in the last two weekends.
Center Fielder, Jordan Godman (Las Vegas, Nev.) got back on track with a 3-for-6 day at the plate. Godman scored four runs and stole two bases. He also doubled and drove in two runs. Godman now has a league-leading .468 average, 56 runs and 29 steals.
Brandon Castaneda (Jr., Azusa, Calif.) had three hits for the second consecutive day. Castaneda scored twice and drove in three runs.
Freshman Gilbert Sauceda (Indio, Calif.) collected three hits for the second consecutive day as well. Sauceda came home twice and plated his 23rd run of the season.
Senior Francis Griffin (Oakland, Calif.) rounded out the Pack's lineup with a 3-for-4 day as he helped the lineup roll over to the top of the order. Griffin brought in three runs and scored twice. He also drew a pair of walks to reach base five times in six trips.
The Pack jumped on the Grizzlies in the first. CSU-Pueblo sent 12 men to the plate and nine of them scored. Bregar belted a three-run homer just three batters into the game. Snyder hit a two-run shot later in the inning as both he and Godman scored for the second time in the first.
After Adams State rallied with seven runs in the second, the Pack put them away for good in the third. Another 13 ThunderWolves came to the plate in the third as the Pack scored eight more runs to take a 17-7 lead after just 2.5 innings.
CSU-Pueblo added individual runs in the fourth and sixth as they upped their lead to 19-8. Castaneda drove in a run in the fourth and came across on a Sauceda base knock in the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, the Pack broke the 20-run plateau for the first time in two years, when Bregar hit his 21st double of the season to bring in two more runs. He would score on a Menocal base to hit to make it a 22-8 advantage.
Like they did the day before, the Grizzlies caught fire after stretch time. They scored four in the seventh and one in the eighth.
However, the Pack scored two more in the eighth as they pulled away with a 24-13 win.
Josh Nuernberg (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) threw a scoreless ninth inning to put away the Grizzlies in a score that resembled a football game.
Brandon Conlin (Jr., Norco, Calif.) improved to 5-4 on the season as he earned the win. Conlin surrendered eight runs, but struck out seven batters in five innings the offensive outburst gave the Pack the win.
The Pack will wrap up their regular season Sunday when they conclude their series with the Grizzlies. CSU-Pueblo and Adams State will start play at 12 p.m.
