Pack WLAX Finishes 2016 at .500

DENVER (April 30, 2016) – In their final game of 2016, Colorado State University-Pueblo women's lacrosse could not pull off an upset of No. 16 Regis University. Needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Pack's season came to an end with a 16-5 loss to the Rangers.

CSU-Pueblo finished its season with an 8-8 record, four wins more than they finished with in 2015. The Pack wound up with a 3-4 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic  Conference games. Regis will advance to the RMAC Tournament with a 14-2 record and a 6-1 mark in conference play.

Five different players scored for the Pack. Sophomore Daniella Calvo (Spring, Texas) netted her fifth of the season. Calvo also provided a spark defensively with three ground balls and three draw controls.

Co-captain Rachael Welzin (So., Farmington, Minn.) forced a pair of turnovers. Welzin also snagged four ground balls and three draws.

Fellow co-captain Leah Neumann (So., Naperville, Ill.) finished 2016 as the Pack's leading scorer with 39 strikes. Neumann lit the lamp once Saturday to set a new Pack record with 39 goals in a season.

Former Pack goals record holder, Allye Webb (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished with 37 in 2016. Her 2.47 goals per game led CSU-Pueblo and ranked Webb 10th in RMAC. Webb scored one of the Pack's goals Saturday.

Allison Wurscher (Fr., Tigard, Ore.) rocketed in her 33rd goal of the season. Wurscher finished the season with a Pack record 53 points and 20 assists.

Abigail Holak (So., Duluth, Minn.) ended her first season with bang. Holak caused a career-best two turnovers and collected a career-high four ground balls.

Freshman Sami LaBella (Pleasanton, Calif.) potted her 24th goal of the season. She finished the year with 32 points. LaBella also caused a pair of turnovers and secured two ground balls.

Although the Pack forced 14 turnovers, the Rangers forced 17 to control the game. Regis jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the first half and rode their strong start to a 16-5 win.

Ane Marie Horton (Fr., Long Beach, Calif.) evened her record at 7-7 with loss. Horton's seven wins still set a CSU-Pueblo record. Her 42.6 percent save percentage also established  a new benchmark at CSU-Pueblo.

Following a record breaking 2016 season, the Pack will head into the offseason with momentum on its side, following the best finish in school history. CSU-Pueblo will not lose any players to graduation and in fact does not have an upper classmen on the roster.

"What an awesome, record-breaking season these amazing athletes had," Head Coach Monica Potter said. "Second-year as a program and a whole new team turned a program around in one short season. I am so proud and can't wait for next season."
