Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. (April 3, 2016) – For the first time since March 11, Colorado State University-Pueblo baseball could not come away with a win. The Pack was denied a sweep of Colorado Christian University in a 12-8 loss. Sunday's setback snapped the Pack's 10 game win streak.
Despite the loss, the Pack still holds the lead in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Plains Division with a 14-2 conference record. The Pack stands 20-7 overall. Colorado Christian improved to 8-25 (3-17 RMAC).
Taylor Snyder (Jr., Elk Ridge, Utah) powered the Pack's attack. Snyder went 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBIs. He also tripled in the game to raise his average to .297 on the season.
Senior, Jordan Godman (Las Vegas, Nev.) went 2-for-6 at the plate. With two hits, Godman extended his hitting streak to 27 games. He hit his RMAC leading fifth triple and scored a run.
Cameron Weinberg (Jr., San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) started strong for the Pack. Weinberg threw six innings allowing just four hits and one run, while striking out five. Unfortunately for Weinberg, he finished with a no decision as the Pack could not hold onto the lead.
CSU-Pueblo took an early advantage. Godman wasted no time extending his hitting streak as he slugged a triple. He would score one batter later on a Gilbert Sauceda (Fr., Indio, Calif.) ground out as the Pack emerged from the first inning with a 1-0 lead.
The Pack added to their lead in the fifth. Snyder swatted a triple to center field. Dominick Bregar (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) and Oliver Jackson (Jr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) crossed home on the play to give the Pack a 3-0 lead after five.
In the top of the sixth, CCU got on the board to cut the Pack's lead to 3-1. The Cougars threatened to add more, but Weinberg wiggled out of the jam, stranding two men on base in his final inning.
Up 3-1 the Pack entering the seventh, the Pack turned to their bullpen that had led them to six victories during their streak. However, the Cougars spoiled the Pack's save bid as they scored eight runs in the seventh to take a 9-3 lead.
CSU-Pueblo fought back in the bottom of the seventh. With Bregar and Jackson on base again, Snyder smashed his fifth home run of the season over the wall in left-center field fence. Snyder now has five home runs to move into a tie for the team lead with Godman.
Snyder's dinger brought the Pack back within three. However, CCU struck for three more runs in the seventh to put the ThunderWolves in a 12-6 hole.
Facing a six-run deficit, the Pack responded again in the eighth. Snyder launched his third hit of the game to bring in Sauceda. Jackson came around for the third time in the game on a Beau Cebulski (Sr., Las Animas, Colo.) sacrifice fly.
Jackson's run made it a 12-8 game. The Pack could not get any more runs as they fell for just the second time in conference play.
Sauceda finished 3-for-5 on the day. He also walked once, reaching base four times in the game. He's now hitting .406 on the season.
The Pack will try to reclaim first place in the RMAC next weekend when they host No. 2 Colorado Mesa University in a four-game series at Rawlings Field. Game one of this four-game set will be Friday, April 8 at 6 p.m.
